Oval shaped dim / discolored spot on the right side of the screen of 70" projection tv. problem persists after replacing bulb. could it be a fine layer of dust on the projection receiving lens?

Model # is KDS-R70XBR2. I have since learned that there is a class action suit on this unit, recently settled by Sony, for defective optic blocks. Sounds like the offending part I am trying to describe as the "receiving lens". What do you know about this suit?

Hi,
If that spot is not tinted like bluish, reddish or greenish etc and looks blackish then it is dust layer at first lens/ filter located next to lamp or tv screen is dusty inside.
Let me know model number of your Sony tv and little more info about spot would be helpful to diagnose its cause.
Can you post image of screen that shows spot? Please note image should be under 150k jpg to post in question thread.
Thanks.

Yes, there is class action suit against this model, click Sony Support link for details.
Call Sony to fix issue in tv either it is lens or optics block cause of spot.
    Thanks.

Discolored Sides

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens.Ths if your tv is a dlp if its a Lcd it will be an issue with your light engine: Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!

Black spots on screen

I posted this answer to a similar question someone else had, but it looks like you have the same problem...

This sounds like your optical block is failing. This is a very expensive part to replace, so much so that it may be better to just buy another TV. Sony has had some tech problems it seems with these; here is a link to some further info:
http://sites.google.com/site/sonylcdrptvproblems/#TOC-Optical-block-discoloration-issues

There is loads of info on this page about your issue and other problems and Sony's remedy (if any) for reimbursement. Good luck.

New lamp restored brightness and color levels...but there is a large oval area of green tint on the screen...tv is rather dusty inside...any ideas

did the bulb break or just get dim? if the bulb broke then you might have a piece of glass down in the engine if the bulb just got dim you might just have a piece of dust down in there you really should have atech take alook or you could damage your engine and that would be around 500 dollars

62.in hitachi projection t.v. has yellow oval shape in center of screen dark blue color on rest of screen picture fine just color

A discolored Blob, loss of one color or blotchy pattern usually in the center of the screen. The problem is becoming all too common with Hitachi projection sets. What happens is that one of the lenses in the optical block (or light engine) starts to burn or discolor due to overheating because of a blocked air filter causing poor air (cooling) circulation. Nothing can be done when the damage is too far-gone except to replace the light engine-at a cost that makes it not worth repair. if the damage is minimal than to reduce further damage, the air filter should be replaced. The Light engine needs to be removed in order to replace the air filter. Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Sharp notevision xgnv6xu oval yellow spot

I have a similar issue with yellow pattern on the left and top right of my screen. Took it apart and found the blue lcd had damage that matched the yellow area that was projected. I thought it was the lens but it was the blue lcd .It has gone bad and no replacement. Are you interested in selling the bulb or the whole projector? I have since purchased another projector and am keeping the bad one for spare parts. Hope this helps..Ben

Picture is dim and blurry

The screen probably needs to be degaussed, which will require either a degausser or a technician. Try turning the television off, and then unplugging it from the wall outlet. Then replug after 30 seconds and turn it back on. Also, try plugging any cables from a cable or satellite box into another set of in-ports on the back. If the problem persists, the screen needs to be degaussed.
