My friend had the same problem and she called this number 1-888-777-0773 to report it and request a replacement and they were able to help. She did ask however why this has not been recalled and he said it is because she was the first one to report this problem.

I would suggest calling Kitchenaid Customer Service. This may be an indication that the heating element is simply getting too hot, causing the ceramic insert to fracture.
I would suggest calling Kitchenaid Customer Service. They may replace the entire appliance for you under the 1 Year manufacturer's warranty.

Call Kitchenaid Customer Service. Under warranty, they will send a new insert out to you. They may even send a new insert out regardless of warranty for customer satisfaction. At the very worst, they will offer you a discounted pricing on a replacement insert. Their toll-free telephone number is:

All West Bend slow cooker models eventually simmer at the boiling point, or 212 degrees. The setting simply determines how quickly the cooker will reach that temperature.
300 watt is not a huge consumption of electricity, depending of course on, how often, how long and how high temperature.
