Printer leaves black ink droplets on the left margin (5-7) the entire length of the paper. I use only new, geniune Canon inks from Staples. Average use per day is approximately 20 sheets. Printer has been in use for 15 months.

This may be leaked ink from cartridge. Clean paper path.

    hi;
    if you are using a refilled cartridge, you should replace the waste ink absorber, to avoid the leaked inked, clean properly the the purge unit

No has nothing t do with dirty heads or nozzles. I think you used the wrong paper (or plastic) and did not tell the printer what it was printing on. Be aware ink yet printers need special paper, so the droplets (how small they may look with only a few pico litre) don't give a splash pattern and the ink will dry very quick. What looks like normal paper, has an absorbent on top of it. Only use photo paper when it says photo paper for ink yet printers. The best results you get, when you use the Canon paper, canon ink and use this in the settings while printing.

Cartridge Alignment failed (though there are little green checkmarks along the entire margin of the page) and now will not print anything but blank paper.


1. Get a damp paper towel.
2. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
3. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.
4. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
5. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.

My printer doesnt make any print at all.


Can you copy a document under the glass? B&W and color?

Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

If these ink cartridges are new, then take them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacements. If they're old, then try purchasing a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge.

Black cartridge is new. registers low ink level and does not print at all.


Unplug the printer from the wall. Noe remove the power brick from the printer for 60 seconds. This will reset any error message the printer is getting. Plug the printer back in.

Turn on the printer. Open up the printer and take out the black cartridge and reseat it. Do the same for the color cartridge. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page. Any error messages?

If you still get the error message, then it's possible that the sensor in the Dell Series 5 ink cartridge is bad. If this is a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge, then take it back to the place of purchase for a replacement or refund.

I am getting the following error message: Black/photo cartridge missing

The colour ink cartridge is not being identified. I have tried taking them out and putting them in again. I have powered it off and on but nothing is working. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Canon i9000 is leaving black ink droplets on printout


Are you using genuine Canon inks? This is a typical problem with 'compatible' ink cartridges.
What happens is that ink leaks from the cartridge and out of the bottom of the print-head. As the print-head moves back and forth across the paper these little leaky bits drop off on to the paper.
Another possibility is that the sponge that sits under the print-head when it's at rest is really saturated with ink and it's leaving a large mount on the bottom of the print head which then get moved on to the paper as the print-head moves. (This too is often caused by a leaky cartridge.)
A quick way to check is to open the printer and take out the print-head (you can do it on this model without taking the cartridges out of the carriage) and look at the bottom off it. If it's all smeared with ink then there's your problem. Use some paper towel and clean the surplus ink off. Then , get some fresh paper toel and a bright light and examine the area at the right hand end of the printer where the carriage normally sits when the printer is off. You should see the absorber sponge. It will probably be very wet. Use the paper towel and try to get as much ink as you can out of that sponge - you'll get your finger ends all inky but that's the price you'll have to pay.
When you've got as much ink out as you think you can, put the carriage back in and test the system out.
Please let us know if that works.

Vertical black line running length of the paper


Hi all, I would suggest you update your printer drivers, try this, follow instructions exactly as written:

Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop(watch for the light yellow bar at the top of window viewing pane, click on this and choose – download file - . Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done.

Sketchy printing along left margin of paper


Very Likely to be the Fusing unit.
I believe on that model it is located just inside the front door. Held in with two levers and a cable.

Inspect the Hot roller of the fusing unit, to see if it is worn.

924 says that black ink cartridge not installed


Hmmm....that sounds to be an issue with the ink cartridges...

You might be using ink cartridges purchased other than Dell or Staples...since these are the two who sell Dell Ink.

If thats not true, then take out both the cartridges in the printer.

Lets isolate the issue

1. Try only Black cartridge on Color slot(right). If you get Install both ink cartridges error, then its an issue with the Black ink cartridges and if you get message that install Black ink cartridge then its an issue with the prrinter.

2. Now install only color cartridge on Black cartridges slot(left), If you get color cartridge missing then its an issue with the Black cartridges which you are using and if you get install both ink cartridges then its an issue with the black slot on printer.

3. If issue found to be with Black ink cartridge then wipe the Nozzles(bottom) of the ink cartridge with lint free cotton cloth from back to front 5-6 times.

4. Also try replacing the ink cartridges purchased only from Dell or from Staples. Purchased from somewhere else or refilled might not work.

5. If issue found to be with printer, then i would suggest you to purchase new printer then.

Hope this fix the issue
