Question about RCA Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I have purchased the converter box to receive digital signals and my tv doesn't have the red/yellow/white connections. Is there a model of converter that will work on this tv which is an RCAModel F25423 Gold Plus(2001) Chassis #CTC203AC5 When I hook it up to the antenna thru the converter it gets one channel, but won't move off that channel. Could it be possible that this tv is already digital? Any help will be greatly appreciated..Thank you LaLauretta Sparks

This analog to digital converter box I bought is mfg. by Magnavox and the instruction book calls for the red white connectors. Do you know if any of the converters on the market will work with just the RF connectors? I have no tech knowledge but I can usually follow set up instructions. There are two inputs on the back of this tv but they are not color coded and I believe are game ports. This is not a projection tv. I have thrown in the towel. Just need to know if there is a converter that will work with just the rf connector. Appreciate the fast help tho...

THE CONVERTER BOX HAS R.F. OUTPUT. JUST HOOK IT UP AND PUT THE T.V. ON CHANNEL 3.(OR WHAT EVER THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAM WITH THE BOX) YOU WILL NEED TO CHANGE THE CHANNELS WITH THE REMOTE THAT CAME WITH THE BOX. YOU MIGHT NEED TO SET UP THE BOX (SCAN FOR CHANNELS) THAT IS ALL IN THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH THE BOX.

Get a component video cable (blue, green, red) and a separate RCA audio cable (white and red) if your cable box has a component video output and the TV has a component video input.

If your cable box doesn't have the component output, you will need a converter to go from the HDMI to component video. Something like this: http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdmi-to-component.html . There are other converters available if your TV has some other inputs available.

A cable that has an HDMI M on one end and a VGA M on the other will not work. HDMI signals from the set top box are a digital signal. The VGA port on the TV is set to read an RGB analog signal. (Similarly a component to VGA cable would not work since the RGB and PbPrY are not compatible.)

I hope this helps.

Cable company switched to digital, now my Ant A port on the vs-50603 does not receive signals. I can somewhat view the analog signals through my PIP only. other tv's in the house came back with signal 5...

When the cable company offers you digital cable, you typically need a cable box to unscramble the digital channels. Therefore you need to connect either a coaxial cable from the cable box's RF output, if it has one, or connect 3 RCA cables from the yellow, white and red jacks on the rear panel of the cable box to the TV. Analog channels only (if available) will go straight thru over the coaxial RF hookup. They are not scrambled. Select the proper input source on the TV for the cable box.

I would like to know if the Hitachi 51UWX20B television can be connected to the internet.

Your Hitachi 51UWX20B is an HDTV-Ready TV. No Digital Tuner. HDTV-Ready means that your TV set is capable of displaying analog and high-definition digital pictures, but without a digital tuner, it cannot receive the digital signal. An HDTV-Ready requires an external high-definition TV receiver (digital tuner) in order to receive HDTV signals. These external receivers can be called an HDTV Tuner, set-top-box, decoder or DTV Converter Box . So you will be required to purchase a converter box to receive over the air programming from an external antenna.

Model 55311 Can you pick up digital tv without converter box?

I am thinking that you have a Mitsubishi WS-55311. If this is the case, you will need a converter box to receive digital television signals.

I hope that this helps you resolve your issue.

Dtv ready?

Going to the following link will help you to find out if your television is DTV ready or not:

http://www.dtvtransition.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=51&Itemid=94

Using their online tool, select the Brand (Akai) and the Model from the list. If you cannot find your model in the list (which I was not able to for your television), they are saying that you most likely do not have a digital tuner.

All is not lost, however. As stated on the aforementioned site, you can consider one of the following options:

  • Purchase a digital-to-analog converter box that plugs into an existing television. The boxes, which are expected to cost between $40 - 70 will be available for purchase in 2008. Beginning in February 2008, U.S. households can request up to two coupons valued at $40 each. Each coupon can go toward the purchase of a single set-top converter box that will allow you to continue watching FREE "over-the-air" television on an analog set.
  • Subscribe to a cable, satellite or telecommunications service provider if all desired local broadcast stations are carried by that service.
  • Purchase a new television set with a built in digital tuner.

Listed on the page is further information that may help you to determine the status of your TV:

  • Consult your owner's manual. If that's not possible, you may be able to look up information about your TV set on the manufacturer's website. Or, you can take an up-close look at your TV set. You are trying to find out if your set has an input connection labeled "digital input" or "ATSC" (for Advanced Television Systems Committee, which is developing the DTV format).
  • If you bought your TV set before 1998, it probably doesn't have a digital tuner at all. Almost every TV set made before 1998 was a traditional "analog" set that can't display digital TV signals without either a special converter or a cable TV connection. If you bought a big-screen, projection TV between 1998 and 2004, it's possible there's a built-in digital tuner inside. But chances aren't great. Only a limited percentage of projection TV sets (and generally only those 42 inches in diameter or larger) included digital tuners before 2004.
  • If you've purchased a new TV set since 2004, your chances of having a built-in digital tuner improve dramatically. Starting in 2004, many of the TV sets sold at popular electronics stores have featured digital tuners that will let you receive the new digital over-the-air broadcasts starting in February 2009. But be wary: It's not a sure thing. Even some of the newer TV sets are purely display monitors that lack the internal circuitry needed to pick up digital broadcasts. Usually these sets have been advertised as "HD-ready" or "HDTV monitor" sets. That means they can display digital and high-definition signals, but they need help getting those signals in the first place. You'll still need a special converter or a cable TV connection.

My tv broke that i had my converter box hooked up to so bought another one now i cant get a signal, my converter box wont stay on.

if it is hooked up through the componant, or composite cables, that is the red white yellow, or the red blue green red white, you have to take note of what input it is plugged into on the back of the tv, they are labled, then hit the input on the remote control to match the input your plugged into, even if your using the screw on cable, stioo have to put it on that input, also try turning your tv to chanel 3

How to connect converter box fo older tv which does not have a coaxial cable connector to rabbit ears antenna

Okay if I don't know exactly what your situation is but it sounds as if your TV is not cable ready but instead has terminal screws for spade connectors to connect an Over The Air antenna. If this is the case thay mak a transformer that converts the signal from the coax attached at one end to that of spade connectors at the opposite end. If you do not have this set up but yellow/ white or red/yellow/ white inputs you could purchase an RF modulator and a set of composite cables to accomplish the same goal.
Hope this helps you and if you would please provide me with feedback on my solution by ranking it please. Thank you and if you need further assistance please post a comment to this solution.

Broke the cable thingy in the back of tv now can only plug cable in air outlet but air outlet only gets a few channels is there any thing i can do to the tv for air to get more channels

The reason you are not able to get more channels is because the antenna port is an analog port and the cable was a digital one. If you have other inputs such as red/white/yellow or red/blue/green you can buy an RF modulator at most stores that will allow the cable to be connected to the modulator and convert the signal so it can be sent out using the red/white/yellow cables.

If this option is used you must know how to cycle through the tv inputs to receive the signal. Higher end models have a button on the remote or a screen in the menu to due this. Basic tv may require placing the tv into game mode as that is the only input source.

Hope this helps you and let me know if I can be of assistance again.

Don't know if the red, white and yellow cables have to be hooked up as well as the antenna cable. I purchased the NS-DXA1 converter box. But,my TV dosen't have any A & V input connections.

They do not have to be connected. Just make sure that the signal source is connected to "From Antenna" and from the " To TV (RF) to the TV.
