    ATTN SD TECH:

My tv model is WS 65819. The error code is 2,2 which in your previous posts indicates a bad convergence circuit. Can you send the instructions to fix? Thanks.

  • Chris Jeffrey Nov 09, 2010

Many thanks to willardbr34 for the you tube video but, I'd prefer something I can print out and that's specific to my model Mitsubishi WS-65819. I'm a novice who will likely take it slowly and a video would be a little challenging. Thanks.

  • Chris Jeffrey Nov 09, 2010

Thank you ladywinn. I'm a soldering novice but, mechanically inclined....I think I could swing it.

    I have a few follow-up questions:

    1. The IC part numbers you recommended, I'm assuming those are for the tv model I have (WS-65819)? I'm a first-time user of fixya and neglected to put the model number in my original post.

    2. In the research I've been able to do thus far I've seen that soldering paste is recommended for the bottom of the parts when I install them....Is that something you'd recommend?

    3. Is the circuit board acccessable through the front or back panel?

    4. What type of solder do recommend I purchase for this repair?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Chris Jeffrey Nov 11, 2010

    eagle338,

How do I request your assistance? Please realize I am a first time user of FixYa and SDTech was the only tech I saw when I researched the issue.....No offense meant.

I see that it is a "Short Protect" issue.....One thing to know in addition to the 2,2 code is that the colors were beginning to separate on-screen every-so-often for about two weeks before the tv shut down and gave the 2,2 code. Something related to convergence sounded plausible.

Model WS-65819, Manufacture Date: August, 2001.

    Thanks.

  • Chris Jeffrey Nov 11, 2010

Thanks Sai. I've found them with the help of the photos. A coupla' rookie questions:
    1. Should the entire board be removed or can the be replace by removing the heat sink screws
    2. If the board comes out, how do the four white jumper cables to to boards on either side come off, pull straight up?
Yes, the service manual would be helpful.....

  • Chris Jeffrey Nov 11, 2010

Yes, the white cable at the edge...looks like there are two on each side. They were pretty tight so I wanted to make sure grasping from the edge and pullit straight up was correct before I broke something else that needs to be fixed :)

    I'll give it a try.

  • Chris Jeffrey Nov 11, 2010

Okay...board is out. Will spend the next day or two picking-up all of the parts

Replacing the ICs is a peice of cake if you know how to Solder, They are Big Black ICs and they will have the Part number on them STK392-570 replace both of them Mats Electronics has them .
1-800-628-1118 unsolder old ICs and then Solder the new ones in.

Encompass List Parts but they dont have service manual.
You are going to need some White silicon compound to put on back of new Ics and type of solder use the60/40 Rosincore

This is a video of a projection screen with the convergence chips being replaced. Dont be alarmed that the set isn't the same make and model of yours. All projection screens have convergence chips mounted pretty much the same way. If you can disreguard the music this video will show you how to fix your problem.

The error codes vary from set to set. So if you can get me the exact model no of your set(ex;65733) it will be easy for me to tell you what the problem is.

Error 2,2 is triggered by short protect circuit. It is not convergence related. Since you have rejected my solution, I am not gonna tell you how to fix it unless, you request my assistance. Ok, in that case lets fix the obvious first. the part nymber of the STK IC on your set is STK392-570.
It is located behind the heat sinks on the convergence board. Check this out. The white residue on the ICs is called thermal grease and it has to be applied to the new ICs as well. You should just desolder them off the boards and pull the of the heat sink
    http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-12/7...
Replace the IC and test the near by resistors. You should switch your multimeter to ohm-meter mode. The value read on the ohm-meter should be compared with the value denoted by the color code on the resistors.

I also have a service manual for this model that I can give you if you don't have it yet

As for the solder, use 1mm lead free solder. 1mm because it is easier to solder. larger diameter solders fall as lumps on the board if you do not do it correctly.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 11, 2010

You should remove the entire board. You should de-solder the ICs of the board remember. As for your other question, you mean the white cables at the edge of the board? You should un-snap them from the slot. The edge of the cable must be held and pulled up carefully. You can then slide it out.

Sure thing. Give it a shot and let me know.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 11, 2010

Roger that. Before you touch the replacement ICs with bare hands, make sure to touch a grounded metal for about 5 seconds, to get rid of any ESD that may be present in you body. ESD is electronics' worst enemy. Human body gets charged with it by doing things as simple as walking on a dry carpet

My Mitsubishi Medallion tv stays on for about 10 minutes and then shuts down and won't turn back on until a period of time has passed. It is a rear projection tv about 9 years old. Can anyone help ex

When it shuts off and the green power light goes off, press both the menu and input buttons on the front of the set (not the remote) and hold both for about five seconds and release.

Power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks and then 3 blinks and repeat it several times.

What is the error code?

65" mitsubishi rear projection tv won't turn

IF model number posted is correct and green power light comes on for a few seconds and then goes off:
On front of set press and hold both the Menu and Input (device) buttons at the same time for at least five seconds and release both buttons.

Power light will then blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks, a pause and repeat it several times.

Let me know what error code is found and I will tell you what it means.

My 65 in mitsubishi medallion hdtv 1080 wont turn

Mitsubishi self check: MOST OF THESE SETS HAVE A SELF DIAGNOSTIC:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ONFOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device" and "menu"buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protectthe Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergenceIC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES ANDTHEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOUHAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM

let me know what you find--hope that you find 2 blinks, a pause and twoblinks--this is the most common and easiest to fix.

I have a Mitsubishi medallion 65 and it keeps turning off,

Dear Sir,
This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times.
1 - 2 = no error detected
2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current)
2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies)
2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection)
2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source)

1. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 PART # 283P044020 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT WOULD BE SUSPECT. I hope this helped.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

I turn the tv. on , the green light comes on then

When you turn it on and it shuts off---ON THE FRONT OF THE SET PRESS AND HOLD BOTH THE MENU AND INPUT(DEVICE) BUTTONS TOGETHER FOR AT LEAST 5 SECONDS AND RELEASE BOTH BUTTONS.

Power light should blink a two digit error code---for example: 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks--This is the most common error code.

Let me know what error code you get and I will tell you what it means and if 2-2 what the problem is.

TV turns on, then turns itself off about 2 seconds later.

set has a self diagnostic---after set does shut down press and hold MENU AND DEVICE(INPUT) buttons on front of set for 5 seconds----if 2 blinks, a pause and 2 more blinks: this is short protection error code---The set does use 2 Stk394-250 and each is protected by a pico fuse in the power supply---if either fuse is blown the set will shut down(it detects no voltage or missing voltage;) It is not uncommon for a shorted IC to cause this problem; if you locate the STK's look carefully at the resistors around them---if any are discolored or burnt---you have found your problem.
