Question about Kenwood DNX7100 Car Video Player

4 Answers

Kenwood I have an indash navi, I am looking into purchasing a new system. I hate it because I cannot navigate while driving. An installer advised if I purchase any Kenwood model (ie: Kenwood DNX8120) I am able to access all points in the navigation and watch a dvd if I choose while the car is in motion without rigging the system, however, I contacted Kenwood directly and they advised me that is not possible. I do not want to throw away money on yet another system and find there is nothing different between this pile of garbage and the new garbage. I want to make sure I do not void a warranty, I can access all points on my navi, as well as, use all features (speed etc). please someone help me.

I bought the Kenwwod DNX7120 today 11/24/2008 All I did got a 12gauge or smaller grade about 6" long took the parking brake female out ( the plastic thing that connects to the side prong place on the pedal strip both sides of cable, one side obout 1/2 inch and put into the female plastic casing and plug it back in, took the other side strip it 2 iiches and loop it around the metal holder of the switch an put some tape. So you can press the parking pedal if needed and everything stays in place no dangling wiere. Very easy. you can watch video or use the phone book and make a call. wiout having to press the parking brake. WARNING!!!! DRIVE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can do it on the dnx7100 as well as the dnx7120. I have had both systems. the installer needs to mess with a couple wires. the sales guy you were talking to is trying to up sell you. the only benifit I see in the dnx8120 is its bluetooth ready..

BYPASS THE KENWOOD DDX8017

Im guessing since this is an in dash dvd player your trying to bypass the emergency brake so it will work with the vehicle in drive. If this is the case all you have to do is take the wire that goes to the emergency brake and ground it somewhere.

there is alot of hacks you can buy online or most car audio place will do it for a fee hooking the ebrake wire to the ground will sometimes work but after time it will start messing up the indash i suggest not doing it that way it will mess it up and its aginst the law to have the indash playing a movie while driving you will get a ticket

How to install parking brake wire

on any of the KVT or DDX model kenwood radios, you can just ground the ebrake wire. which will allow you to watch video and have navi functions while driving. just connect it to the black wire of the kenwood or the metal chassis of your dash.
hope this helps

Kenwood DNX8120 can't acquire satellite signals

Check your antenna for a kink. Honestly I have seen the gps antennas on all indashs go bad very easily. Just check that make sure your good. If not you can try resetting the unit with the little reset button on the face.

Factory controls interface?

Call these guys at hifiaudio.com and purchase the SWC module that matches your vehicle (ask for Scroche brand). Once you purchase the SWC module, make sure you read the installation instructions two or three times before you install it. Once installed, these SWC units work great. I just completed the installation on my 2008 F150 with the Kenwood DNX-7100 and my steering wheel interface works perfectly.

Kenwood DDx8017 with navigation

Which NAV system are you using with it? KNA-G510, etc needs to be plugged into the NAV port on back and then you need to go into the System Settings to enable the NAV option and voice interruptions correctly. You'll want to look for AV Interface in the System Settings.

Here is the DDX8017 manual for some help:
