Question about Westell Wirespeed ProLine 6100 Router (C9961001100)

1 Answer

No internet My new laptop recognizes my wireless router (Netgear), but I can't get internet access. I can login to another network, but not mine. I have a Westell B90-610030 modem/router from Bellsouth. I don't have the Westell CD and couldn't download the software from the internet (upg file.) Not sure if this has anything to do with it. Would appreciate your help. Thanks, Alex

I do have a connection if I connect it directly to the Westell. I also get a signal from the Netgear, although it says local only (no internet.) It seems there's a conflict between the Westell and Netgear.

  • Amm342 Jun 16, 2008

I know how to get to the Netgear page, but don't know what to do from there. Could appreciate some extra help.

Thanks, I think we're getting closer to fixing this thing.

    Still no internet...

  • Amm342 Jun 20, 2008

I connect directly to the modem, and I don't need a username and password. Both the IP address and DNS are set to get dynamically from ISP.

  • Amm342 Jun 23, 2008

Thanks, I dusted out an old Linksys router and set it up. I was having the same trouble, but found a blog that helped me solve the problem.

    Thanks for your help.

Do you have a computer that can get online through the router via wired connection? If not then the router is not yet configured properly. Give me an update on this so i can give you more options on how to rectify this concern.

that is right. It seems like we need to change the address of either the modem or the netgear router. becuase your netgear and westell uses an ip address in this range 192.168.1.x.

do you know how to access the setup page of your netgear router? if you do you change the netgear router address to 192.168.2.1. If you need more details on how to do this. just reply to this post.

You need to get in to the setup pag of your netgear setup page.

Then on the letft hand side look for the LAN IP Setup its under Advanced. then change the LAN IP address to 192.168.2.1 And Make sure the the dhcp server is in the same range.

If its 192.168.1.2 then changet the 3rd octect to 2 same as the LAN IP.

The save the settings or click the Apply button. then turn off the router for 30 sec plug it back in and check if you will be able to access the internet with your computer.

How do you connect to the internet through the modem?

Do you need to put a username and password to get online through it or does it just automatically get online.

What is the setting of your router's basic settings? Is the Internet IP Address set to Get Dynamically From ISP? Make sure that the DNS is also set to Get Automatically From ISP.

Okay I dont see why you cant still connect to the internet. Let's just try to double check how the router and your modem is setup. Let's start with the physical connection.

the westell modem should go to the internet port of your netgear router and the computer/s should go to one of the ports labeled 1,2,3, or 4. The lights that should be lit on the router should be the power solid green/blue, port where the computer is plugged in to, the wireless light and the internet light should be lit and sometimes flashing. Now the router settings should be Autoamtically obtain the Internet IP Address From ISP and same with the dns. You router address must also be set to 192.168.2.1. If you still cant go online turn off the router, modem and wired computer. Wait for 1 minute and turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stablelize and turn on the router, once the power is soild on the router then turn on the computer. If you will still not be able to get online then its either the router has a problem or you can try to set the modem to bridge mode (your isp can help you do that) and set the router to PPPoe. But if still fails i suggest to contact netgear tech support to test the router that you have.

72955587_xs.jpg Wireless routers connect computers to a network without the need for network cables.

Wireless routers are used to connect computers into a network without running network cables throughout your home or office. Netgear wireless router settings must be changed using the router's Web-based interface. Any computer that is "hard wired" with a network cable to the router, rather than on a wireless connection, can be used to access the router. From the Settings menu, options such as "Encryptionicon1.png," "Network setup details" and "Passwords" can be customized.

On a computer that is connected to the routericon1.png with a network cable, open any Web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. In the address bar, type "192.168.0.1" (without the quotes) and press "Enter." This will bring up the login prompt for most Netgear wireless routers. If that doesn't work, try "www.routerlogin.net", "192.168.0.5", or "10.1.10.1" until the login window appears.

    • 2

Type "admin" in the Username field, type "password" in the Password field and click "OK." If the password fails, try "1234," "Password" with a capital "P" or "admin". Once you enter the proper credentials, the settings screen will open.

    • 3

Make any required changes to the settings. Under Security section, it is possible to specify a new username and password for added security. Once you have saved your changes, close the window, and the system will automatically log you out.

I lost my password and lost the WGT624 installation CD, how can i get the router to work on a new laptop

If you have lost the password to access the router page then you have to reset the router

Ensure that you have all the details regarding your internet connection before resetting the router

If you reset the router you can run the smart setup wizard and get connected by entering correct information in all the pages of the wizard

If you are looking for the wireless password:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Access your router page ( Open Internet Explorer --> Type 192.168.1.1 and enter it--> Login name(default)-admin, Password(default)-password) --> GO to wireless settings, under Wireless settings you will find the wireless password.
