Have an Abit A17 motherboard that stops booting with a check sum error. Code on the digital readout is either IA or 1A, neither of which is in the manual. Any idea about this?

Press delete as the system boots up and go into BIOS Setup.

Change boot sequence so that your machine starts with the CD/DVD ROM disk.

Boot from the CD/DVD and do a clean installation.

Reformat and install operating system. After a few days it can't find operating system. Have done thsi about three times and continues to do the same thing. Bad HArd Drive??

Its very possible that you have errors on your drive but have a look in your bios settings to make sure that the hard drive in question is still set as the boot drive, sometimes the cd drive may be set as first boot device, changing the first boot device as your hard drive will pretty much always speed up your boot time apart from anything else. Try this to see if it helps, or after the next re-install (if required) check the event viewer to see if any drive errors are being reported. Another thing which could help, again after a re-install if the first ideas dont work, is to right click the boot drive and go to properties, in here select the tools option and select check disc, the pc may need a restart to allow it to check the disc.

Hope this helps

Having dropped my Samsung R530 (nothing obviously broken), when I try to stsrt it it is coming up with the message:- "Boot From AHCI CD ROM: Operating System not found" Any ideas?

Hi tony prother,

"Boot From AHCI CD ROM: Operating System not found" error is because the system is booting the CDROM of the system and its not detecting an installed Operating System. You need to check if the system still detects the Hard Drive of your laptop on the Bios page. To go to BIOS reboot the computer and tap F2 on the system and on the bios page check if the hard drive is detected then go to then BOOT Tab select the hard drive as the first boot priority and reboot the system.

If the hard drive is not detected it might be damage, you can get intouch to a local tech to check and backup the files.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Error 2000-0142

Hi there!
The error code you have there means that the Drive Self Test failed. You can try to power down computer, disconnect and reconnect hard drive from the system board. Run the diagnostics , if no error occurs then it's a cable/connector issue, if it failed with the same error, replace you hard drive,
Hope this helps!

Syntax error on Boot Up

Attempt to boot the machine in Safe-Mode.

While powering up continuously hit F8.

You will get a Boot Option Menu

Select Safe-Mode boot

Often times drivers, or system files may be "lost" or referenced wrong, and booting into safe-mode can solve the issues, sometimes.

Check in the Device Manager for any conflicts if you are able to get into Safe-Mode.

Note any Red X or ! symbols near any devices and their names. You will have to reinstall the drivers for these devices. Consult the machines manufacturer website for downloads and support for any devices listed.

Let us know the results.
Good Luck

Error Code 07 301

With IBM Thinkpad,it telling you that some hardware is faulty, check your keyboard to make sure nothing is stuck. Also it could also be your trackpoint. Usually, replacing the damaged part gets rid of the error! However there is a bypass key sequence that allows your to continue booting the system even though it gives you error. I'm not 100% sure of what it is but somthing like ESC at boot or F1 or maybe your need the boot to the error page then press ok, then when the system comes up again press f1 or esc then. You'll have to play around with the key sequence a bit. But to get rid of the error forever you need to replace the damaged part! Regards, Armando
