Question about Maytag Performa PAV2200

The agitator doesn't work on the wash cycle--it will empty and spin on the rinse cycle! I checked the belt and the agitator splines and they are all o.k.

Please make sure that motor is running fine and it is not jammed. If the motor is fine and moves freely then check the selector switch for any disconnections. If the selector switch is fine then you'll need to replace the timer. To disassemble the timer please unplug the washer. Remove the selector knobs by pulling straight off. Remove the 3 screws that secure the rear, top edge of the frame assembly to the end caps and rear shield. Pull the frame assembly forward and lay it on a cloth. To remove the timer knob locate the hole with the timer knob shaft at the rear center of the timer. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the rod located in this hole up to release the timer knob. Knob and skirt can now be pulled off. The timer is locked into the control shield with the tabs. To remove the timer remove wiring harness plug, remove the screw and pry the tab located on the center of timer, slide it towards inside of machine. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

SOURCE: The agitator doesn't work on the wash cycle--it;sa=view;id=8

Hi above is a place to obtain for free your service and repair manual, here there are troubleshooting steps to be performed to isolate the problem(s)

Above is a great DIY washer site to assist you to isolate and repair your problem.

Any grinding noises are NOT good, and if the belt is OK, then we must suspect something maybe caught in the pump, or a bad pump or gearbox? It's pretty hard to tell just from a description, well unless the description is unique, but noise can mean many things.

Now, if you don't wish to DIY then simply call in a Maytag serviceman, and then when he arrives ask for a "Quote" before allowing any work to be undertaken. This way you can make an informed decision as to what to do, repair or replace, depending on costings.

My hotpoint washer will spin but will not wash or rinse, the agitator makes a noise as it attempts to wash and then rinse. the spin seems to work fine

The agitator shaft has splines at its top which fit inside a splined area inside the agitator. Sometimes the splines in the agitator strip; then you would need a new agitator. If that is not the case the problem is within the mechanism. There is a repair kit available for that, but you need to take the mechanism out of the machine. I am assuming that you have the "direct drive" machine, recognizable by the pump sitting at the front, in the middle, under the tub. If you have the older, belt driven washer, please get back and I will explain.

Washing Machine does not agitate

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Following is the Whirlpool installation and maintenance PDF on how top load, direct drive washers work with a troubleshooting section.$FILE/L-55.pdf

Following is the Whirlpool parts list for commercial top load, direct drive washers although the consumer washers are basically the same.

The problem seems to point to the Agitate Cams in the transmission that raise and lower the Agitate gear on the main transmission shaft. These are relatively inexpensive to replace.

I'd also check the splines on the main agitator shaft and the two pronged "washer" on top of it.

GE profile washing machine won't agitate it spins out, drains,

Pull the agitator out and check the drive collar splines. If you have the model I think you have just pull straight up on the agitator. Once removed you will see the drive collar with a 7/16 head bolt, remove it and pull off the collar.First before pulling it off spin it if splines are stripped it will spin freely.
