Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I bought my mother a Singer 4538 many years ago and just realized she has never really used it and is using a 1950's model because she can't figure out how to use it properly. Here's what's happening -- when we follow the instructions to set up everything for a zig zag stitch, for example, we get a strange looking stitch on top and a perfect zig zag on the under side.

Usually it is in the bobbin threading. How about trying a new needle and good thread? Has it been oiled? Sometimes, not being oiled and just sitting causes funny things to happen. You can also call Singer at 1-800-4singer and ask them what else to try. Good luck, such a shame to have a machine not being used and when you go to try it, you can't make it work right.

I need a manual for singer machine model# EG256068

EG256068 is a Singer sewing machine serial number for a Singer 201K built after Dec 18, 1950. I used the look up table here to get the model number: http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-eg-series-serial-numbers.html .

Most Singer manuals are available here: http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals . The direct link to the manual for the 201K is http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/55dc9c90390ea8ad32a3a1c51afbce7d9fb8c05e.pdf . This manual applies to several different machines.

I hope this helps.

Can you give me any idea of the value of a Singer Manufacturing Company sewing machine, G2775438, with cabinet? Also, any idea of the year it was made?

The G2775438 was built in 1913, according to the Singer database: http://www.singerco.com/admin-support/machine-serial-numbers/single-letter . This serial number is for a Model 66 (built after March 19, 1913). The value depends on the condition and the specific cabinet and accessories that are with the machine. A worn model 66-1 with a basic cabinet is ~$50. The higher end cabinets can raise the price to $125. (Those were the prices ~10 years ago.) Someone wanted $175 for an advertised good condition model 66-1 with a really good cabinet on Etsy a few years ago.

I hope this helps.

Hi I have a manual for my Singer serger model 14u34b but I need a colored (if possible threading guide. I bought it used several years ago & I am unable to get it to sew

You can order a new hardcover manual for $15 from Singer. But, maybe, it would help you you called customer service at 1-800-4singer and they can tell you all of the colors for your copy then you can mark it for free. Worth a try.

Bobbin won't pick up stitch(thread)

Try a new needle, confirm needle is inserted correctly, needle flat side to back of machine. If still not needs timing, take to sewing machine tech.
