No they are not normally very noisy.make sure the shipping bolt has been pulled out of the side of the machine also check the botto of the machine sometimes the base plate can be bent upward and will be hitting the bottom of the motor mount.
you can use a flat tip screw driver and push the tabs in on the fromt of the machine they are about one inch in from either side of the machine this will allow the fron panel to come off and you can look inside at the base plate and make sure it is not pushed up to the motor mount. if it is all you have to do is push the plate back down.

GE Frontload Cloth Washing Machine makes noise throughout most of washing cycle. Purchase new 12/2014, Been doing this off and on since day one.

was it installed correct when new ? as there are foam shipping blocks that have to be removed before use , these should have had Tape handles that extended to back that pulled the foam out when yanked , id thought the drum wouldn't even rotate with these still in though?

See if you can level out the unit. Sound like the case is responding to un-even pressures.

I have a Maytag Quiet Series 200. In the beginning of the cycle, it makes a weird 'whirrrring' noise that goes away right after the first wash cycle. It's getting water. It's very noticable and I worry...

I have a quiet series 300 and it does that, too. I think it just balances the load before washing and is normal. I found this in the manual:

If it's a FAV6800A or FAV9800A run a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in

the wash basket. Do you hear noise like metal against metal? If so it could be Outer Tub Bearing noise. Please confirm you model number and first two digits of your Serial Number

I have a maytag washier and it is working but it makes a lot of noise -it sounds like jam Model number is MAV2755AWW Serial number is 27422854JT

Your Maytag washer may vibrate or make some noise during normal operation. If vibration and noise are excessive, however, you'll need to troubleshoot the problem. The two main reasons for such an issue are overloading and nonlevel installation. Overloading can be corrected by putting less clothing into the washer before you run a cycle. It can be corrected mid-cycle by removing clothing articles from the washer mid-cycle. It's also very important that you make sure that your washer is located on a firm, completely level surface. Otherwise it may create severe vibration and noise, possibly even enough to damage the machine or nearby items.
