Question about Samsung ML 4551NDR - printer - B/W - laser

1 Answer

When duplexing legal documents, the printer pauses between pages reducing print speed to 4 ppm. When duplexing letter documents, print speed is an acceptable 15 ppm after first print. I have been with Samsung and tried all the usual stuff, reloading drivers, checking drivers, we even installed it on different machines. 2 win 7 pc's and one xp pc. same results on all three. Alan

This is for duplexing only. The printer should duplex legal size documents at about the same speed as the letter size documents. The problem to address is why does the printer re-initializes between pages on legal size documents creating a pause, but it doesn't re-initialize when using letter size paper, thus, no pause in printing. We tried printing complex documents and simple documents. . Alan

I was able to talk with another Samsung rep and he tried to reproduce the slow print rate on the same machine he has access to. His machine printed 20 ppm without pausing when duplexing legal size documents. He said my machine should do the same. After more experimenting we did notice that their is a message from the machine asking to put letter size paper in tray one when the default on the machine is set for legal. It also ask for letter size paper to be added when the machine default is set for letter. He thinks that the reason for the pause between prints is that it may be checking for paper size. Anyway, he is sending a repair man out to try to find the problem. I will try to post the solution when it becomes available. Alan

I don't think there's much to say with this, but if you don't mind, please clarify, do you want this printer to print faster when duplexing?
Thanks.

This is normal, and there's nothing we can do to increase the speed. Letter size must be the default paper size so it will initialize to upto the default letter size in the first step and then the remaining portion will under-run another buffer to continue and so on. If this printer supports A3 and and it acts this way, then we can say there's a memory issue with the machine. Even if you select the Legal size as default, the built-in standard size is Letter and there's nothing more we can work around to fix the issue.

    Thanks.

When printing a duplex booklet, the printout is reduced in size with larger margins than in original document. How can I get it to print regular size?

It happens when the documents is on A4 size and the printer is set to print on letter size (which is smaller in size). Hence the printer automatically resizes the prints which result in larger margins and print as compared to the actual document.
Therefore, when you print the documents (Press Ctrl+P) you have to select the paper (A4) from the print properties.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

How to fax

Load an original in the automatic document feeder (ADF)
You can copy, scan, or fax a single or multiple-page A4, letter, or legal-size document by
placing it in the document feeder tray.
The document feeder tray holds a maximum of 20 sheets of letter or A4-size paper or 15
sheets of legal-size paper.
To send a basic fax from the control panel
1.
Load your originals. For additional information, see Load originals.
2. Enter the fax number by using the keypad, press Speed Dial or a one-touch speed
dial button to select a speed dial, or press Redial/Pause to redial the last number
dialed.
TIP: To add a pause in the fax number you are entering, press Redial/Pause,
or press the Symbols (*) button repeatedly, until a dash (-) appears on the display.
3. Press START FAX Black.
If the device detects an original loaded in the automatic document feeder, it
sends the document to the number you entered.
TIP: If the recipient reports issues with the quality of the fax you sent, you can
try changing the resolution or contrast of your fax.

Printer wont print. It keeps saying PC Load Legal. The printer has paper in it.

Well the printer is telling you to load "Legal Size paper, which is 8.5" X 14" paper.

More than likely, the application you are using is telling the printer to print the page on legal sized paper.

If you want the document to print on "Letter sized paper (8.5" X 11") then in the application, go to the File drop down and select "Page Setup". From within page setup's window, change the paper size to letter and then re-print the job.

Do pixma Mp610 support duplex printing

The MP610 does support duplex printing.

Duplex Printing

The duplex printing function allows you to print data on both sides of a sheet of paper.
The procedure for performing duplex printing is as follows:
Performing automatic duplex printing
You can perform the duplex printing without having to turn over the paper.
1. Open the printer driver setup window, check the Duplex Printing check box, and confirm that Automatic is checked.

2. Select Normal-size Printing (or Fit-to-Page Printing, Scaled Printing or Page Layout Printing) from the Page Layout list.
3. When printing a document that has small margins, click Print Area Setup... and set the print area.
When you perform duplex printing, the print area of the document becomes slightly narrower than usual and the document may not fit on one page.

sub.gifTo print without reducing the page:
Select Use normal-size printing.
sub.gifTo reduce the page slightly during printing:
Select Use reduced printing.
4. Specify Staple Side.
The printer analyzes the Orientation and Page Layout settings, and automatically selects the best staple position. Check the Staple Side setting. If you want to change the setting, select another value from the list.
5. If necessary, click Specify Margin... and set the Margin width.
6. Click OK.
Duplex printing will be started.

Printing duplex and legal size.

I don't have legal size paper to test this with so it's a theoretical point but it looks like the printer will not do duplex in anything other than:
  • A4
  • Letter
  • B5 (JIS)
  • Executive
You can always print in duplex manually which is always an option regardless of paper size.

Hope that helps.
