We have had this camera for a 3 or 4 years... the last trip I took it on was almost 2 years ago. It seems to be stuck zoomed in. I can focus on images but only from far away. I tried reseting the default settings and I've looked through the manual but it was really unhelpful. Please help before our camera is completly out dated.
-   I have the same problem. Thumped it hard a few times and it did not fix the problem. Does anyone have another idea?

-   I have a similar, if not the same, problem - the focus is not responding to the auto setting and remains on 'telephoto' albeit blurred. I can focus using the tele control as if the automatic focussing has been turned off. Resetting with the 'Reset defaults' function has not solved the problem.-   Guest

-   Was working fine on holiday. Very next day came to use it and focus seems to be locked on maximum zoom. Operating the zoom controls makes no difference but it does sound like something is trying to operate.-   shawrhinos
This is a symptom commonly listed for DiMAGE cameras listed on EBay for 'parts only'. Dropping the camera I had caused the same problem and carefully 'smacking' the camera once again did solve the problem but that may have been dumb luck. Sorry but it is a service task that may cost more than the camera.
I had not used my camera for two years. Had the same focusing issues when I went to use it. After a miserable day of swearing I tried thumping the lens housing with the side of my hand and the focusing started working again !
Yep, agreed! just tap it on a table or similar and Hey-presto - all fine again. Have done this twice now, don't know how many times I'll get away with it but it's OK so far.

I have just read hokuwho's solution to the focussing problem with the Dimage Z3, and whoopee! - I gave the camera a solid bat with my hand on all sides, turned it on and - yes- the system is now focussing. Many thanks for your military problem solving ( minus the 2lb hammer!)
Now, how do you get blood out of the camera?
