Try these....
Overheating problem in your PROCESSOR!
Check the temp in your BiOS and the setting of your processor!
Check also the power supply and upgrade it to hifgher wattage!
Clean your processor HEAT SiNK, dust and dirt might have acumulated!
Check the HEAT sink position, if its flatly fitted on top of procie, and scrape the old silicon paste between ur proci and heat sink and put a NEW ONE!

Encountered this kind of prob.. the prob is in the PSU unit(Power Supply Unit)!

These might help you!

heatsink was cleaned and instaled with new paste
    so i'll check the powersupply
also it doesnt shud down, jst turns off and turn on
btw im using the comp now and i hav seen on a foum that this cud be memory prob
also now the comp desnt boot with the memory installed in the first slot but works in all other slots so cant use dual mode which is very annoying

hei do u think the ram slot is broken, have been using that slot since i built the comp n it mulfunctioned after the crashes n also bios settings are lost after the crash n i hav to go into bios before i can go in to windows

If that is a mem probs, it won't start at all, and there'll be a ram sound "BuZZ"!
Bios setting comes out in the start, means new hardware have been detected in mobo, HD, Mem, and PCI cards!
Have u tried another mem card w/ lower capacity?
ram slot don't just get break or somet'in, it depends of how u install the cards!
Try cleaning the contact point of ur mem card by using rubber pencil eraser!

My comouter first blanked out and opened and closed windows/programs and then went back to normal. It then did it again for quite a while until I finally did a hard shutdown. When I turned it on it...

Errors on the hard drive or corrupt files/programmes are the usual cause of that sort of erratic behaviour.
When you get it back start it up and as soon as you get into Windows, run CHKDSK/F straight away, the computer then will shut down, or you must shut it down. As you reboot it, it will be in DOS mode and CHKDSK/F will run and try and fix the errors.
If that is not succesful, start the laptop up with your Windows System Disk and choose repair system.
Hopefully that will solve your problem. If not, you may need to format your drive and start again with a new system.

I have a compaq presario laptop with windows vista, 2 weeks ago it was working fine and now it loads up fine but crashes everytime i try something, what can i do appart from wiping off and starting again

Hi. I think the best to resolve this issue is to restore again your system to its factory settings or reformat again your system, then after doing it you should disable the automatic updates from the control panel so that you're system would not automatically update itself, because most of the time Vista crashes because the updates it made and sometimes you tend to shutdown your system without finishing the updates from microsoft then it would cause that crash the next time you open up your system. To disable the automatic updates just go to control then click classic view on the upper left side then look for the Windows Update icon on the control panel, and from ther just turn off the automatic updates. I would also suggest that if you to maintain the automatic update you should make sure that the updates are already finish before you shutdown your computer or you could change the schedule of the updates depends on what date have you chosen. Hope This Helps

For solving blue screen error

HP Notebook PCs - "Windows Unsafe or Sudden Shutdown" Blue Screen Error Occurs During Startup or Boot

Description
Windows XP may not start and the following error message may appear on a blue screen:
Windows Unsafe or Sudden Shutdown
This error occurs after Windows was not shutdown using a safe method. The notebook may have been turned off without clicking Shut Down or briefly pressing the computers Power button. The power may have been suddenly disconnected from the computer or the Power button may have been held for more than 5 seconds.
An unsafe shutdown can damage some of the Windows system files, preventing the computer from starting properly.
Solution
If the error occurs allow the operating system to complete a check of the hard disk. Windows will prompt your to run CHKDSK. CHKDSK scans the hard drive for damaged files and repairs the files if necessary. The scan may take up to an hour depending on the size of the hard drive and the number of damaged files. The computer will restart when the scan is complete and Windows should start normally.
If Windows will not start or the computer will not boot after the scan is complete see: HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting a Startup or No Boot Problem (In English)
