Question about Viking Professional Series VCBB36 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

I need to clean the coils on my Viking refrig. The access is on the top, and I took out the one removable slat but can't get down into the unit to remove all of the dirt or even to inspect the coils.

SOURCE: doesn't cool

Hi, Yes, If the evaporator was not frozen over then I agree with you. The unit has lost its refrigerant charge. The only thing you can do is to have a licensed refrigeration man find the leak, repair it and recharge it or replace the refrigerator. If the evaporator is frozen over the defrost timer would be the problem. In this case, manually defrost it and it will be good for a few days until you get it replaced. kstfas

There is a tech sheet behind the control. You can force a defrost then ck voltage at board or terminator. Depending on age that may be your issue. Otherwise call your distribution for authorized servicer

I Have a GE monogram 1989 refrig. Model BISB42EKB

The defrost thermostat is located at the left rear side of the evaporator coils. Sometimes you will have to deinstall the fan blower to access it and sometimes you can get your hands around the fan. Watch out for the plastic clips because if they are cold, they will be brittle. You can access through the front, after removing the fan and the shields surround it. Try the shields first, and then see if your hands are small enough to fit around the fan motor. Just warm the clips with a hair dryer so you don't have to replace.

My Refrig is collecting water in the bottom. My freezer is on top and the refrig is on the bottom. Water collects in or under the produce trays. What could be wrong

Without a model number or even a brand, this advise can only be general. You have a blocked defrost drain. Each time the refrigerator does an automatic defrost, the resulting melted frost needs to go down to a drain pain near the compressor, where it will evaporate. If the path to the drain pan is blocked, the water has to go somewhere, in your case, down the inside of the liner of the refrig and to the lowest level, under the produce trays. There may be a tube down the outside of the refrig on back which can be removed for cleaning, or the blockage may only be accessable from the area right by the cooling coils inside the freezer section. (usually located behind the back wall, but sometimes under the freezer section floor) You may find that flushing the drain tube using a turkey baster with warm water will be all that it takes to solve your problem.

Water leaking from top rear left of refrigerator and dripping on coil line in the back of unit. Inside is dry and no water on floor yet. Is it the ice maker connection? If so how do I access it?

You will have to remove the ice maker , to have access to the fill tube . Only 3 screws , hold the ice maker on . After removing , make sure the tube is not frozen inside , and that it is securely , pushed inside the fill tube holder . If frozen inside , then the water valve behind the refrig , where the wall water line connects to , on the refrig , will need replaced also , due to " seeping " , not closing completely , after filling .

My freezer is not freezig and the refrig is not getting cold. There is a notice coming from what I assume to be the compressor in the back of the refrig at the bottom.

Check Relay and overload on compressor terminal. sometimes due to faulty relay overload tripping which makes tik tik sound. before replacing relay need to start compressor directly.

Make sure the condenser fan underneath the unit is running and make sure the condenser coils near there are clean. Remove the cardboard back to access.

WATER DRIPPING FROM TOP OF REFRIGS MAIN COMPARTMENT

The drain is clogged.

This water should be going down the drain to a pan under the ref.

The drain starts under the cooling coils in the freezer but can be clogged anywhere. Some models will have access in the main ref in the top - rear, a small cover can be removed. Some will have access on the back of the ref. you can see the drain tube and an elbow where it come out of the ref. remove the elbow and check for clogs.

you need to remove the bottom drawer and check your drain in the back each time it goes into defrost it sounds like the water is running to the bottom of the unit instead of down the drain

GE side by side Refrig. with evaporator iced up solid.

Yes ill be glad to help John. Your refrigerant level is fine. Remove the motherboard axcess panel on rear of refrig. Locate 3 wire blue plastic connector on bottom of board. Wires are labeled Comp, Line, Def. Jump Line to Def and see if heater gets hot. If nothing happens than replace the heater. Let me know what happens.
