I had a virus on my computer (IBM thinkpad x31) and I restored the factory settings. When my computer was finished and I started it up, I tried to figure out how I could connect to the internet. I clicked FN-F5 together and it showed me this error message: IBM Wireless adapters (802.11 or Bluetooth) are not installed on this system. I tried to find a selution on the internet by typing in the error message on google. I found a website where you can find drivers for my computer but they didnt make any sence to my laptop. I don't know what to do now, could you please help me. I just need to have the screen with all the wireless networks in my area, but I don't even have that screen in my ' Network connection'

SOURCE: wireless radio control problem

Try going into the Device Manager and making sure the Wireless Adapter is enabled. Click Start > Control Panel > System. Click the Hardware tab then click the Device Manager button. Now click the Plus [+] next to Network adapters then double-click the wireless adapter which is probably the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection which will open the Properties dialog. Ensure the Device status reads, "This device is working properly" and Device usage shows "Use this device (enable)." If either the Device status or Device usage shows anything other than what is shown above, first try to change the Device usage, which should change the Device status. Now try again to use your wireless adapter. You might need to press Fn + F5 to turn the device on.

SOURCE: computer says IBM wireless adapters (802.11 or bluetooth) not ins

Hello Kangarootrib,
Since you bought the ThinkPad second hand and the software installation disc did not come with it, you should go to the IBM ThinkPad manufacturer's web site. Once there, look for your specific model and search for the proper drivers and download and install them on your current computer. Drivers are basically small bits of code that tell the operating system how to communicate with hardware devices, which when you purchase products new come with a CD that contains these instructions for your computer to be able to communicate with the device. Hope this helps and please let us know if you need further assistance.

P.S. If you would not mind, could you please rate my help as I would really appreciate it. Thank you

SOURCE: ibm x31 password problem

Visit: http://www.ja.axxs.net/unlock/
If you cannot boot the ThinkPad, you will have to reset the IBM ThinkPad password via hardware.
If only the power-on password is set, do the following to remove the power-on password.

  1. Power off the computer
  2. Remove the DIMM cover on the bottom side of the computer.
  3. Short-circuit the two password pads or put a jumper on the contacts to short the circuit.
  4. Under the short-circuit condition, power on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The power-on password is removed.
  5. Reinstall the DIMM cover.
If both the power-on password and the supervisor password are set, do the following to remove the passwords:
  1. Power on the computer by pressing and holding F1.
  2. Enter the supervisor password. The Easy-Setup menu appears.
  3. Click on the Password icon.
  4. Click on the Power on icon.
  5. Enter the supervisor password and press the Space bar.
  6. Press Enter twice.
  7. Click on Exit; then click on Restart.

How do I restore a IBM Thinkpad to factory settings I have tried to logon to windows XP it open's, but but will not let me in. I have pressed F11 and got Startup Interrup Menu

If it has the blue IBM Access button on it, press that immediately after turning on the computer. It should load a page with options to run a recovery.

Ibm restore to factory setting

You have not explained what is wrong with your computer.
Is the laptop working, does it boot up into Windows?
What are you trying to restore?
Are you trying to get into a previous Restore Point?
The Access button takes you into the BIOS, you can change the BIOS settings back to the Default settings (ie the factory default settings).
It is difficult to offer a solution without knowing the exact nature of the problem.
