I just replaced the wick, cleaned up the heater and filled with new K-1 kero. The heater (Dyna-Glo RMC-95-C7) is emitting black smoke worst than ever. The wick is burning a little unevenly.

Either the wick was improperly installed or you may not have allowed enough time for the wick to soak in the kerosene and become evenly distributed. Check the placement of the new wick and allow time (several hours) for the wick to absorb the kerosene.

Need to know how to replace the wick

The first thing you need to determine is the correct model number of your heater. Once you've done that, go to the GHP Group Inc, website listing the heater manuals and locate the appropriate manual for your heater model and click on the link for your heater.

After you've selected the appropriate manual, you can either download it to your computer or print it out. Inside the manual you'll find the instructions on how to replace the wick. The kerosene heater manual I reviewed listed an incorrect phone number to call to order a replacement wick. I suggest you use the new GHP Group's number to order your replacement wick: (877) 447-4768.

If you have a different Dyna-Glo heater than a kerosene one, you should still be able to locate the appropriate manual on the GHP Group's heater website.

Hopefully, you'll have your heater up and working again in no time.

Aladdin tr 5000 how to change wick

You have to take the heater apart, in order to change the wick out. be sure to wait an hour before lighting the heater afterwards. That is necessary, and should be heeded.

I'm just looking for a site that may have an owner's manual that I can download--to change the wick on my Dyna-Glo RMC-55-Ry kerosene heater. THanks

The model number is actually RMC55R7 which may be why you had difficulty finding it when you did a search. Here is the manual you were looking for. In addition, here is a step by step guide for replacing the wick.

Hope this helps!

I need to change the wick on my dk 23 corona kerosene heater

what make and model is it? They are very simple to change, never heard of 1 "Not" lighting tho, unless you have water in tank and the wick sucked up the water...water don't burn,You can also raise the wick in their now if it has never been raised,as long as it don't have "riviet"looking things attached to sides of wick to fit it wick housing(Sears is good for that)If it a round or square heater it pretty much the same you have to remove the outer shell of heater, its always a good idea to dump out fuel first,at the base of wick their is usually 3 wing nuts or screw that hold wick Assembly in,after removing them you pull housing up to remove ,notice how the old one is on and remove and put new one on,when putting back in make sure wick fans out and goes to bottom tank, put back to gether and your done, most replacement wicks come with directions and height setting for the wick, Its not real hard as long as you pay attention

Change the wick

You must be very careful and follow the instructions exactly on these wicks. The pins must be inserted into the holes on the wick holder. It is also easy to install the wick holder upside down. Look for a small up arrow on the side.

You must soak your wick for at least 30 minutes, preferably 1 hour. I know it's tempting to light it right away, especially when you are freezing, but you must wait. Wicks work by using capillary action. The fuel must have time to soak in properly.

All wicks are NOT created equal. Buy good ones, under no circumstances should you buy the ones that Walmart sells. They **** and you will be changing it in a day or two. Home depot sells a decent one, but for the really good ones visit Miles Stair wick shop. He also has some good info to deal with condensation and moisture problems.

Also note these heaters will not work if they are dirty. They must be absolutely clean of all dirt and debris, every single part. Especially the parts that come in contact with the wick.

Regular maintenance, good wicks and good fuel will keep these heaters working.
