Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a desktop running WindowsXP.until recently I was using Internet Explorer 7. Now I tried to upgrade to IE8. I installed it, tried to get online the explorer starts but immediately stops. Message: it encountert an unexpected problem and needs to close down. It does not tell what the problem is. Somtimes I get the message: Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. I restarted the computer several times to no avail. I reinstalled the IE8 but I get the same message. How can I find out what causes it.

I got as far as step 2. There are several error messages of the same day when I tried to install IE8. I double click and get step 3 with the info about the error. I assume you want me to send you this info. You say click the button -(which button?) and paste here (where is here?). I cannot even get the command cut and paste. I would send you the various error messages ( they are not all the same) if I knew how to do it. By the way, I uninstalled IE8 but I cannot even IE7 up again which I was able to do before

Dear Nonontech, I appreciate your help which was very instructive, guiding me through the various steps. I also appreciate your patience. I still can't get IE7 or IE8. As you suggested I will have to reinstall the Operatong System. Many Thanks.

Please uninstall the Internet Explorer 8 from the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs and let's get started over again. Do you know how to check the System Event Viewer? if so, it's latest result is very important. Click Start, then Run, type in eventvwr.msc and press enter, the Event Viewer window pop up, there click "Application" and check the "Errors" on the right-pane.
I have a desktop running - nonontech_8.jpg

1. click the "Application"
2. Error (double click)
3. Click the button and paste here (once you click the button, the description of the error will be copied).
But to make the error is related to IE 8, click the error and read the brief description, it the beginning of the description should be like this "Faulting application Internet Explorer ....etc..." or just something similar with Internet Explorer...

Unisntall the IE 8 and run with the IE 7 doing all these. Good luck.

Awaiting.

Oh... I am so sorry, it's my mistake, actually I had to do it this way.

Click the Application, i.e. 1 (circled) in the picture.

Click the Error, i.e. 2 (circled) (the beginning of the description should be like this "Faulting application Internet Explorer ....etc..." I need the error info related internet explorer)

Click the button, i.e. 3 (circled)

[once you click the button, the info will be copied onto the clipboard] I want you to send the info, so you'd need to paste it here i.e. your comments which is to be posted back to me.

Now, you also need to do the following (because IE 7 doesn't open)

Step 1. Quit all programs that are running.

Step 2. Click Start, and then click Run.

Step 3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.

Step 4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

Restart your computer and try opening the Internet Explorer.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat step 2 through step 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below, so you need to repeat regsvr32 shdocvw.dll and so on..................):

    Shdocvw.dll

    Actxprxy.dll

    Oleaut32.dll

    Mshtml.dll

    Browseui.dll

    Shell32.dll

Don't forget to restart everytime you run a command, otherwise you'll not see the changes or it might not take effect.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, you'll need to working around with the Registry Entries, I'll post you the details with the instructions, if possible, please let me know how much you know about the registry, otherwise a mistake could cause serious damage.

    Good luck.

Have you tried those commands I've posted or not?

    Here again:

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat step 2 through step 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dllwith each of the file names below, so you need to repeatregsvr32 shdocvw.dll and so on..................):

Ok.. Click Start, then "Run" and type in "regedit", then press Enter or click OK.

A new windows will open up, now locate "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" expand it (click the + sign),

    then "Software" and under "Software"

locate "Classes" and then "Interface" and again locate "{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}", click it and on the right-pane, double click the (Default) and verify the value is "IDispatch", if not, change it to IDispatch and click "Ok".

Again locate "ProxyStubClsid" [just below the "{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"], click it and again click (Default) and verify the value is "{00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" if not, replace it and click "Ok".

Once again, locate "ProxyStubClsid32" and verify that the value is "{00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" in the "(Default)" entry.

If still this doesn't helpful, try reinstalling the Internet explorer. Your final option is running "Windows Repair" using the original XP CD.

Sorry for the delay, it took me several minutes to prepare the screenshots.

    Good luck.

If you are using IE 7/8 you can try to run the program without loading any add-ons to see if one of them is causing the problems. To do this, click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
(You can also load IE without add-ons by clicking START --> RUN and then typing iexplore.exe -extoff)
If those don't work try to re-register IEPROXY.DLL by clicking START --> RUN and typing regsvr32 IEPROXY.DLL and then clicking OK.
When IE dissapears does IExlorer.exe show in the task manager's list of running processes?
Have any toolbars or new sofware been added recently? If so and you are using Win XP you may want to try a system restore to a previous point before the changes were made or uninstall the toolbars completely. Also disabled all Pop-Up blockers to see if that has any effect.clean up ur registry using reginout

My Yahoo Messenger keeps shutting down after I

Hi!

I have problem like that before and here is what I did...and it works, until now i can easily access my yahoo messenger..

I am using a mozilla browser.. because it surfs fast....the yahoo messenger can't be accessed.. with the right username and password and the net connection is stable..but no luck to get log in..I did uninstalled and reinstalled yahoo messenger for several times but still it won't work..

Then I search internet and found out that yahoo products rely its connection on microsoft Internet Explorer.....meaning yahoo messenger is best supported by Internet Explorer....So what I did is download the latest Internet Explorer 8 and download also the yahoo mesenger 10.
It did not matter whether you will be using IE8 as your default web browser or not. Just install IE8 on your computer (mine..am still using mozilla as my default web browser)......after installing IE8, install Yahoo Messenger10....

After successful installation.. sign in at yahoo messenger and it will work...

If you want to know the link for IE8 and YM10 here it is..click this file and save it..
1. Internet Explorer version 8 free download
2. Yahoo Messenger 10 free download

I hope this help you..
thanks...much appreciated if you rate this solution..thanks.

Cannot download Internet Explorer from any site I tried

Access: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads

Under the "Popular Downloads", find:

Windows Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP

If you're running Microsoft Vista, instead click "more"
to find IE8 for Windows Vista.

If you're running Microsoft 7, IE8 is pre-installed.

Ever since upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, I find that I cannot print emails, open up many attachments, and retrieve other information. For example, if I click on a link, I get the following message:...

Ther are known conflicts with Vista and IE8 - particularly with Vista 64-bit.

I would suggest uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling IE7 or using an alternative browser such as "slimbrowser" (excellent program) or similar.

IE8 can be uninstall by using Add or Remove Programs module in Windows XP, but in Windows Vista, Windows Internet Explorer 8 is not considered to be a ‘program’. Instead, IE8 is categorizing as an ‘update’. Thus, users will not be able to find Windows Internet Explorer 8 in “Programs and Features” of Windows Vista.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

If there is no option of IE8 been found on “Programs and Features” or “Add or Remove Programs” dialog box, or uninstallation of Internet Explorer 8 is unclean (causing error message such as setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer has been detected on this computer when trying to downgrade to IE7), try to manually run the spuninst.exe.
To do so, go to C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\ folder (your drive letter may be different), and run spuninst.exe.

Restart the computer after uninstallation completed.

Hope that helps :)

"Internet Explorer has has stopped working..."

After installing IE8 on vista I kept getting msg Internet Explorer has stopped working - continually looping thru this message.

Solution for me was.
End IE with task manager - needed to do a couple of times.
Then from control panel -> programs -> manage addons I disabled all add ons and then IE started OK. Then by process of elimination stated enabling add on until failed again.

In my case it was the skype addon that was causing IE to fail. Leaving it disabled has allowed IE8 to function.
