Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

No water A couple weeks ago my washing machine would not add water under the super load level. So I switched it to large load. Now it will not fill to large loads either. When I turn it on, it does not add any water it just starts to agitate with no water. I am wondering if there is anything I can do or if it is going to be repairable.

It sounds like your pressure switch (water level switch) may have malfunctioned. The pressure switch turns off the water source AFTER the water reaches the appropriate fill level. If the switch remains in the shut position, it will not allow the tub to fill. The pressure switch is located under the control panel behind the load level switch. Its a simple repair that you can accomplish yourself. The part can be located at under the "Console and Rear Panel Parts" heading as item number 12 (part #3366845). I would lift the console and make sure the electrical connectors are in place before ordering a new one, however.

Another possibility is the water inlet valve (also known as a mixing valve) is defective or clogged. The inlet valve is what your fill hoses attach to. If you live i an area that has sediment in the water (i.e., hard water or well water) it can accumulate in the water inlet valve and clog the sediment screens. You can attempt to clean the screens by turning off the water source and disconnecting the hoses from the back of the washer. The screens can be cleaned with some cotton swabs soaked in distilled vinegar.

With the fill hoses still attached to the water taps, place the hoses in the wash tub and turn the water on. If you have good water flow coming through the hoses, and more than likely the valve is cause of the problem.

If you diagnose the water inlet valve as defective, you can click on the following link for step-by-step instructions on how to replace it.

This is very simple repair if you wish to perform this yourself. If your model number is correct, the part can be found at under the "Controls and Rear Panel Parts" heading as item number 18 (part #285805).

Both parts cost less than $30 a piece. If you need further assistance please let me know. I hope this information is helpful to you. If the model number is incorrect, please post back with the correct number (located around the wash tub opening).

NOTE: The model number you have listed requires you to insert a putty knife under each front corner of the console and push in while lifting up top release the retaining clips holding the console in place. On some models, you have to remove the end caps and remove the screws underneath.

Not sure if normal or something wrong but i put it on large load and it only fills about a third of the way if that is this normal

top loader --- there is a small plastic hose that runs from the bottom of the tub up to the level control switch at the panel
the filling water pushes air up that tube until the trapped air pressurizes enough to overcome the water level setting and switches that switch
if it already has water in ti it will activate the switch too early
pull the switch off one end and blow the water back out
re attach and set the level and turn on the water

After washing 2 loads the machine won't fill to high level it only fills 1/2 way

You have a faulty fill valve. Return/ replace you washer if under warranty. If not then you will have to replace your fill control valve. That valve is where the knob for the fill level is.

Washer does not fill with enough water.

The water level is controlled by a pressure switch connected to a long rubber hose that goes inside the tub. If the switch is defective or if the pressure hose is blocked the machine may under-fill.

Check also inlet hose and water pressure from the house.

It does fill to capacity on the rinse cycle only on large or super levels.

The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.

I put a fairly large load in washer. As the washing started I needed to add an item. I was surprised that the machine had very little water in it. Is there a way to add more water. Also when soaking I had...

The Series 10 and 11 machines have three level fill points the Series 12 and above have two level fill points.

I know Bulky Items wash selection will give you a High water fill which is only 7 inches or so of water in the wash basket. 3.5 inches of water for a medium fill.

You can turn on/open the water inlet valves in Service Mode but I would not recommend that. A manual fill as you did is the only safe way to set the additional water level IMOP.

Water goes in but never fills, water just keeps running

well it could be a couple of things.....there is a clear tube that runs from the outer tub up to the water level switch.(small, medium,large,etc...) make sure the tube is hooked up on both sides....if it is take it off the switch and blow through it to make sure it is not plugged with fabric softner. If you have done both of those things and it still does it then you need to replace the water level switch. Part number for switch is PS975847 and it runs right around $50.

Kenmore 80 series washer doesn't stop filling up with water

Almost went and bought a switch until I widened by search for "kenmore washer 80 series overflow" and came up with this:

Turns out that a couple weeks ago, I had a really unbalanced load that probably shook off the tubing. Anyhow, saved me a trip to the supply store AND cost. Thanks to the original poster!
