We have a kenmore he 4t. started having issues with the drum banging loudly. it showed an error code which i looked up and it said to b a drain problem. found the strainer on the pump which was plugged....

The drum sitting a little bit off center and the knocking sound whenever it spins are symptoms of a spinner support assembly, a.k.a, spider assembly completely gone out. It is the three-arm assembly that holds the basket to the shaft. The only remedy is replacing the assembly which might include the drum itself.

The predicament here is the cost and the degree of difficulty of this repair. The spider assembly is usually sold as an integral part of the drum which might cost around $400. This kind of repair is the "mother of all repairs" in this machine as it requires total tear down of the machine.

The following videos are from owner's who experienced such symptoms and eventually found out the real score. We hope you can relate with them particularly the symptoms.

Ultima extra wma64 drum is loose and rattling

Your bearings have broken up in the drum. This is a very difficult DIY fix since it involves stripping the front from the machine, taking out the drup assembly, splitting it, knocking the centre spindle free and then knocking out the machine pressed bearings and replacing them.

It CAN be done by an ameture. I do it occasionally when I am repairing machines and I constantly moan about the fact that I really need to build or buy a tool to knock the bearing out. Despite the fact that the new bearings will cost about £20 ($30) ish, this is a nightmare job. Your local repair man will probably come and fit a refurbished drum for you (Then take yours away and refurbish that for his stock when he has time).

If you have never done anything like this, my best advice is that this is NOT the time to start!

Get a quote, then decide if you want the machine repaired, or to go buy a new one I'm afraid

12 year old magic chef washing machine is making a lot of noise during spin cycles (with and without clothes in it) Kindof like a constant grinding/knocking. What should I do? Is it an expensive...

If you grab the bowl of the washer and try to spin it back and forth, does it feel loose and sloppy?

If so it is probably a bearing which might not be the easiest thing for you to change if you've never done it before. It shouldn't be very expensive, especially if you can take the machine apart and have it ready for the repair man.

Knocking during spin cycles, and water coming out of soap dispenser

hello, usually the knocking noise is a failed bearing. If it is the bearing it cost alot to repair. Try lowering the front legs to stop the leaking. hope this helps.....

Spin basket weld gone causing loud knocking on spin cycle

front load washers are a great inovation into our modern society that being said they are a delicate balance of moving parts the main bearing plays a very important roll in keeping the machine balanced during the spin cycle I wouldn,t do one without the other . you're absolutly right too much $$ for a 4 year old machine call Electrolux plead your case and see if the will dicount the price of a new macine at least the value of the basket Good Luck

Kenmore front loading HE3 makes knocking sounds during spin cycle

Ours started knocking several months ago and then progressed to a high pitched sound when in the spin cycle. I manually turned the drum and heard and felt a bearing roughness. I lifted the drum assembly and felt a fair amount of play, which I think the initial knocking noise came from. On the sears web site a new rear drum mount cost 293.00. Today we went and bought a LG model wm2455hw at Home depot, on sale until 2/20/08. I couldn't see paying to repair a machine that only lasted four years.

Loud Knocking

this is a collapsed drum bearing, one of the most costly of the repairs apart from the timer and motor, not normally a job for the diy man unless has an engineering background, sorry, the cost of repair depends on the age and replacement cost of a machine, a bit like a car, would you buy an engine for a 20 year old car, if you have a machine thats expensive then the repair could be worth it? stop running it you will cause more damage both to the clothes and the machine sorry (ps i am a retired appliance engineer of 20 years service)
