Right hand mouse click on the battery icon in the task tray, bottom right of your screen and select Power Options.
Check the settings as I suspect it has a default of turning the screen, hard drive and everything else off after a too short period of time.
I have mine set for High Performancs and no power saving when plugged into the AC Adaptor. You can adjust all settings from here.
Hope that sorts your problem out.

Asus ASUS A53U-ES21 wont power on

In order for the AC adapter to work the battery must be in good condition, why? Because the system runs of battery the AC adapter just keeps the battery charged up while in use, if the battery is open or defective the computer will not run on just the AC adapter.

My lapyop automatically switched off when battery got drained .When I tried to restart it ,it is not functioning..There is no light signal and no response for button pressing......

It appears that the AC adapter is not powering the system. If you know anyone with a later model Dell, the AC adapters are inter-changable (If the plug fits, you can use it) If the system powers on, the you need a new (Dell Branded) ac adapter as non-Dell adapters will not charge the battery.
If the DC in jack of the chassis is loose or the LED on the AC adapter goes out when plugged in to the system, then you may have a bad motherboard.

I have a Simon XT which I installed about two weeks ago. I keep getting a system low battery message when I press the status button on the console. I had a new battery shipped and I installed it about 24...

Call your Central Station and put your account on test if it is a monitored system.

Power down the system. Disconnect the battery, then the AC adapter. Then plug the battery in first, then the AC adapter. Plugging the AC adapter in first can cause the low battery message.

if that doesn't work, with the battery disconnected, measure the voltage of the battery with a multimeter. If it reads less than 5.4 volts, the battery is bad. Bad out of the box batteries are not too uncommon.

Next, check the charging voltage from the panel. Measure DC voltage from the leads that connect to the battery. They should read around 6 Volts DC. If the charging circuit is bad, it will cause a low battery trouble and the console will need to be repaired or replaced.

Hope this helps.

My light turns on, can't switch it off, no effect or signal coming through at all. It appears to be in in working condition, just don't know what is going on.

First thing is to check that powr adapter is the correct one and/or battery is good. Light will come on with near dead battery or wrong power adapter... Wrong adapter can damage the unit.

Just bought a second hand acer travelmate 4200. I have never owned a lap top. How do I change from using battery power to outlet power

On the left side, towards the rear is a DC jack. Plug the power cord in there. It should automatically start operating on AC power, and charge the battery.

Remove the RAM and put it back again. It may solve the problem. Defective RAM is not a common issue. If it is in the same condition again, remove all power including the battery and then press the power button for 5 seconds. After it power the system by AC adapter and switch on the system. Reply what is the condition.

Problem with extended battery

LED indicator for your laptop model
Steady Blue = Battery charged and AC adapter plugged in
Amber = Battery charging and AC adapter plugged in
Slow Amber Flash = <10% battery life
Fast amber flash = 3% remaining TPC will automatically go into hibernate
Slow flashing amber Adapter plugged in = Overheat condition

Do you have a multimeter to test the battery that you are using? check the output current of the battery.

Charging problems

Hopefully the battery is just confused and needs to be reset. Drain the battery down until the system shuts off automatically, then take the battery out of the laptop for two minutes and plug it back in, and connect the AC adapter, let it charge without turning the laptop on, then turn it on and hopefully it should work fine again. If not then you may need to buy another battery. Try again with another AC adapter just in case because you don't want to replace your battery (expensive!)

Please rate, thanks!

Dell Inspiron 5160 won't charge.

wow, ive never seen a computer know what type of adapter is plugged into it... it definately sounds like a power system problem. three parts to this- the adapter, the battery, and the motherboard of the laptop, since that is what interprets and passes on the power from the batter/outlet to the rest of the parts of your computer. we're hoping it isnt the motherboard not recognizing your power subsystem...

but you took a good guess to replace the adapter. you want to make certain the old adapter-- the voltage etc that's written on it in plastic somewhere- that it matches exactly with your replacement adapter. (You just cant plug these thing into any computer it fits into, they have different requirements sometimes, even though theyre all laptops). If it does, then yes, I would assume it's the battery.

Try taking out the battery and running straight off the current, can you do it? Technically, you shouldnt need the battery, it will just act like a desktop computer.

You can get a reasonable aftermarket latop battery for 100-135 bucks, chinese. Compare it to what your manufacturer wants to charge you for a replacement.

BTW- youre out of warrantee, right?

Good luck!

Toshiba Portege 7140CT battery problem

Your ac adapter may be the problem. Is the adapter in good condition. Try using your friends ac adapter since you have the same model laptop. If it charges up your battery and the light stays on your adapter is at fault. Then replace your adapter or the part of it that is at fault. It could be the plug or base. If that does not solve your problem check your dc port on the laptop itself. Shut it down. On the back of your laptop where you plug in the ac adapter there is a pin. Does the pin move? If it does then you have another problem. The port may need replacing which most repair shops don't do. They usually replace the main board which can be costly. Hopefully that's not the problem. Let me know if either of these are not the case then we can go from there. Hope this solves your problem
