Fridge side is not getting cold all of a sudden as of yesterday, is it the circuit board on the back the problem.

My side by side model number is GSH22 UFRE WW I hear a fan running on the freezer side when I open the freezer door, as for the fridge side I could see the box on the left hand side at the top where the cool air comes out, but there was nothing coming out, when I looked on the freezer side where this box is located there's just a square hole, there's no fan in there, and like I said I hear a fan running on the freezer side and feel the cool air on my feet when the door is open to the freezer. The fridge side isn't getting cool for some reason from that box. Now I replaced the Motherboard awhile ago because it was making noise from the back of the thing, but there is no noise as of now, just my fridge is not cooling as of yesterday, I just don't get it, do you think I should call a GE repair guy on this matter instead of trying to fix it myself, because the freezer seems to be working fine, it's just the fridge side that's not doing what it's suppose too. I'm stumped on this. Thanks for your time and input about this. Mike

Hi,

If just your fridge side is not cooling...
The most common thing is ice building up on the coils which stops the air flow...
Now the board could cause the defrost not to work if it controls the defrost cycle....
or the defrost heater can be bad....

Some also have a defrost timer which can go bad also, but I do not think yours has that....

So yes, the board is very easy to change and I would try that....if it does not work then the heater is gone...

You also will need to shut down the unit, remove the back panel and manually defrost it with a heat gun or hair dryer or the new board will not work....it cannot play catchup with the ice...it needs to start clean...

The fan on the freezer side blows air through the coils and into the fridge side....the coils plug up with ice and then the fan can't move the air....to the fridge side....

Sounds like you may be over your head here....and may have to get help.

If you want to get it working for now easily, take everything out of the freezer... there are about 6 screws that hold the back panel on...remove that and defrost the coil and it will work for a few days or a week till you can get someone there...

Have the GE GSH25JFT side by side fridge. It's

We had the same problem with our 2 year old GE GSH25JFT. Had a Sears technician come out and said it was the main circuit board. He also stated this would be $400 by the time the repair is completed. I just ordered the part myself from a Sears Service Center for $146 plus shipping. I believe the install is as simple as: unplug refrigerator, disconnect water supply, removing six screws, pull out the old circuit board and install the new one.

Maytag wide by side MZD2667HEW freezer works fridge does'nt

Was it the damper control you replaced and it's still not adjusting the vent(damper)? And is the cold air from the freezer being blown through the vent by the fan in the freezer.
The circuit board mainly controls the defrost timing and the fans. I don't know that it would solve your problem.

Fridge and freezer sections no longer cold, although control panel lights up and ''appears'' to work. Interior light works and something can be heard running. Both sections failed together and quite...

you might have coils that are frozen up. Ironic that ice build up will prevent the fridge from working. In my case I could access the coils by removing the panel at the back of the freezer (on a maytag side by side). You then have to remove the ice (let it melt away, do mot try to cut it out...if you do you could damage the coils and there goes the fridge). In my case the problem was caused by a thermostat that was faulty. Easy to replace and all works good. Another issue could be a circuit board (located in the top part of the fridge section). I ended up replacing both parts. not too expensive if you do it yourself (less than $100 for both parts). It took me about 2 hours to do. It helps if you can get a diagram of the inside of your fridge.

good luck!

We got home from work yesterday and the refrigerator was HOT inside.

How to check stuff
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

GE Side by Side fresszer frosts up and it doesn't cool properly

possibly you did not defrost enough but other things to check are:
does the fan operate?
maybe the defrost element open circuit or the thermal cutout in series with the element

GE Side By side doesn't cool and freexer frosts up

Most common problem on GE's is the defrost heater(s) has gone bad. They are a glass tube and when they go bad the tube will have a burnt or black color to it. A good heater will be clear. I bet that is your problem. Seems to be the problem about 90% of the time on GE not defrosting.

Whirlpool gold refridgerator light not working and is making funny noise

Had the identical symptoms with my Whirlpool Gold GS6SHEXNB00 side-by-side refrigerator. Had a technician come on site, indicated it was the "circuit board/ timer" (Whirlpool part # 1394052). Board is accessible from behind fridge (lower left side in a white plastic housing to left of compressor).

Swapped the board out (noticed a scorched circuit on the old circuit board). Lightbulbs now work, temperature readouts also good to go.

5 year old Maytag Wide by Side Refrigerator side not cooling

Same issue with my 6 yr old Maytag side-by-side model #MSD2756GEW. Turned out it was caused by a faulty circuit board. This circuit board is located in the upper right fridge section. Apparently these boards are sensitive to power surges (which we have here in central Texas from time to time.) When the circuit board is fried, it makes a noise like a fan blade malfunctioning and it stops the auto defrost feature in the freezer from working. So the freezer ices up at the back, and the ice prevents the cold air from reaching the fridge section.

Our circuit board (which we thought was a fan) made ominous noises for a few months. (The noise would last only a minute or so and stop shortly after we opened a door). Eventually we noticed that the fridge wasn't as cold and the freezer had snow in it. Finally the board stopped making noise and about a week or so afterward we noticed that the milk had spoiled and the fridge wasn't very cold. The food in the freezer side pretty solidly frozen, thankfully.

In addition to replacing the circuit board, the fridge had to be de-iced or it would not work properly. I put it all frozen into a large camping cooler where it stayed for several hours. I opened the freezer doors and put table fan and pointed a hobby light which gets quite hot, at the back of the freezer. Within 3 hours, the ice had melted significantly so I could see through the grate at the back of the freezer. This really great technician named Tracy, made a special trip to the parts store to get the circuit board and came back within a couple hours, bringing with him a steamer. He removed the back panel inside the freezer section (the coils are behind there) and used the steamer to melt the rest of the ice before he left.

Tracey, who works for a local appliance repair company, told me that about 4 years ago, Maytag started making their fridges with built-in surge protection, so the circuit boards apparently don't get fried on the newer models as they do on my 6 yr old model. He recommended that we put plug the fridge into a heavy-duty surge protector - which we are definitely going to do.
