Re: Refrigator will not stay cold

We have replaced the heater coil in the freezer side twice but we still have to defrost it as it gets frozen up and will not allow the refrigarator side to not cool. The freezer side works great, but we have to use a hair dryer to defrost the coils in the freezer so that the other side will get cold. What could be making the coils freeze up and not circulate the cool air over to the refrig side. The model number is JSD2789AES - Jenn Air I picked the one at the bottom just to make this go through. Thanks Jackie :)

We have the same problem with our jenn-air JSD2789GE. It's very frustrating cause this was not a cheap fridge! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Refrigerator side stopped cooling about 3 weeks ago, then freezer side stopped cooling (+-30 deg at max setting). Did not apear to have frost in rear. Tech was angry when he came because I had turned fridg off and he could not check temps (how was I supposed to know!). He replaced circuit brd in fridge and freezer seems to be cooling again, but refrigerator side does not. I am getting really frustrated since this is 4th time they have had to come for something (ice maker twice, loud rattling noise in refrigerator side???, now this). The thing is, they never seem to find anything wrong, and replace parts 'just in case'. Do these guys really know what they are doing? Bottom line, this thing is a piece of junk!!

Defrost problems are caused by 3 things
bad: 1) defrost timer/ timer board 2) defrost heater (in freezer) or burnt wire going to the heater 3) bi-metal thermostat (round metal piece attached to the coils with     at least 2 wires going to it)
a good technician can test components without the machine running. all you need is a simple $5 meter any tech that gets angry, show him/her the door!

Freezer and frige not that cold

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

GE Profile Artica PSH23PSAASV side by side refrigerator not cooling...this has happened before. The freezer stays cold but the rerigerator does not get cool. It does not seem to be getting cold enough....

You will need to unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel inside the freezer. Check for ice or a frozen over evaporator coil. If frozen defrost and we will need to examine the defrost heater at the bottom of the evaporator. It may have a glass tube covering the heater element inside. I want you to check to see if it is burned out. The part number for the defrost heater is WR51X10042
You please let me know what you find. If the element is burned out I recommend you replace it and the defrost thermostat part number WR50X10068
You and order the parts by clicking the link below and entering the part number into the part number search feature and click FIND IT. Let me know what you find, Sea Breeze

The freezer is heating up at the botton in the back of the freezer it has heat and is red. The ice is melting and nothing is staying cold. Buts it only the freezer nothing else.

The red is the defrost heater , defrosting the evaporator coils . There is also a thermostat which cuts the heater off when it gets to 140 degrees (max) behind the freezer wall . The main control board will (should) terminate the defrost cycle in about 32 min. Only the frozen food keeps the freezer cold during this time .

I have a Kenmore side-by-side frig which I was told was mfg by Whirpool: Model 106.51264104 Mfg April 2003 It stopped cooling on both sides. A repr tech replaced "RELAY CAPASITOR ASSY." I now get freezer...

Hi,

Okay if not the coils inside the freezer section behind the panel that covers the coils is where the ice is located? I don't know of any other coils inside the freezer? Did you confirm that compressor itself is running? Not just the fan and clarify again the location of the ice.If you have frost on the freezer coil, you probably have a defrost problem. Your freezer should go into a defrost cycle about twice a day. When this happens the compressor and fans shut off and a defrost heater in the freezer coil will turn on heating away the ice. This usually last 10 - 20 minutes. If the defrost coil doesn't defrost it will become a solid block of ice and this will inturn block the air from blowing into your refrigerator compartment. There are several things that can go wrong with the defrost cycle such as the defrost timer, defrost heater, or the defrost termination thermostat. After defrosting the coils with a hair dryer, they have not frozen up again in several days. I did notice that the air diffuser in the refrigerator side does not seem to open by itself. It is not broken physically. If I open the luevers manually, eventually they will close and not reopen.

OR

Relays will burn out for the same reason a light buld burns out. So many hours of life and they go. Also a power surge from a storm can cause them to go.
If the compressor is cold try a relay. If you hear the compressor click on and then click off after 3-5 seconds try a relay.

Thank You
