How i format 8 gb usb sandisk

Usually, it comes formatted. However, you can re-format it (e.g. on a PC or Mac) using the usual disk format utilities, if you don't need any special/specific (SDHC) format features.
For instance, on a PC ... insert the USB SanDisk into a USB port. It will show up as a (storage) device on your "My Computer" window. Highlight that icon ... (put the cursor over it) ... and put your cursor on the FILE (menu) tab and click on it. It will display a drop-down menu with "Format" on it.
Click on the "Format" and it will guide you through the formatting process.
On a Mac, when you insert the USB SanDisk into a USB port, it will show up as a device on your desktop. You can use the "Disk Utilities" software (usually in the Applications - Utilities folder), to format it.

Why can't you format the usb? What type of message are you getting when you try to format the usb?

Ok, try this, forget formatting, just delete everything off the usb.

You could open the usb and click Edit/Select All the click Edit/Delete. It will wipe everything off just like formatting.

How to format the usb that was protected by unknown error

You can try to format it using the C prompt. on your computer, click on START and then RUN. on the pop up box, type the "cmd" or the word "command." you will see then a small box which would probably say, C:/docu~/..etc. type in there, FORMAT F: (or whichever is assigned to your USB). if it asks you if you need to force handles to format the usb, just click on enter or Y.
