Question about Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI1 Notebook

1 Answer

I was trying to install windows 7 on my laptop and it wouldnt load and gave a message about going into the bios. So I did and when I changed something not sure what it was, and now when I turn it on it goes through a phase of telling me how much ram i have and then goes to a password screen but none work. So I went online looking for answers so I got to a point where it told me to bypass the cmos battery so I have my computer all apart but don't know if the battery is removeable, maybe you can tell me by my model number if the battery can be removed or if what I'm looking at is even the correct part.

The CMOS battery is a rechargeable Lithium button cell and is best left well alone.
Underneath, near the RAM, is a jumper land, (ident 500). Short the lands together for about 15 seconds and boot up your laptop. BE VERY CAREFULL as irrepairable damge will be done very easily!
When the laptop boots, go into the BIOS menu, and find the "Restore Default Setting". Click F10 to exit and save.
That will return your laptop to a useable state again.
Hope that helps.

Aspire 1700 needs to be acpi compliant, to run windows 7 help needed

Advanced Configuration and Power Interface

(ACPI) specification provides an open standard for device configuration and power management by the operating system.

Windows 7 absolutely requires ACPI 2.0 for power management.
Your laptop only supports ACPI 1.0. Windows 7 will never load

I think Vista is the most advanced version you could install.
I really like XP as the speed is so much faster.

Keep Smiling :)

Hard Disk Adapter

Why would you go back to XP after having 7?
Installing any operating system:
When you first boot the computer you will see a screen that says press: F1, Delete, etc to enter setup. Once you are in setup (BOIS) navigate with keyboard arrows to find 'boot sequence'. select boot from 'cd'. Remember you have to go back and set this to boot from hard drive after you load the OS (Operating System).
Make sure you save your files, everything will be gone. Also, backup all of your drivers or download them from the internet and store them on a USB flash drive. As you may not be able to access the internet to load them.
Boot from CD>going into setup>install xp>delete partition>create>partition>setup will format drive>quick is fine>will have some prompts for selections, etc.
I hope this helps.

I have a IBM Lenovo r500 laptop and I am having trouble loading windows 7 on it. I have updated the bios but it has worked since then. Now I am having error messages trying to reinstall it on a clean...

Yes! it could be, is the window 7 a upgrade disc? the reason I ask it will detect the previous version and install, but if the hard drive has been completely formatted it won't install on empty hardware. If that is not the issue go into bios and reset to factory default it might make the difference.

Boot mgr missing message

I could have told you you were loading Windows 7 by the symptoms. Try running a Malware program with a register edit-register function in it. If you are switching from XP Pro. you will need to clear your register and all command and drive to . Set BIOS to boot from DVD/CD first then set the hard drive to boot second. Windows. Also if you have access to another computer ask microsoft for tech support.

I install Xp in my NEC versapro nx series laptop when it appears this message file/i386/ntkrnlmp.exe could not loaded the error code is 7

This is a installation problem. It might be due to skipping this file during the OS XP Loading. Either repair your OS or relaod new OS. Donot escape any file during installation.

Sometimes due to your DVD Drive lens or too used CD's some files donot copies and error message comes couldnot load so and so file, try again or skip. donot skip select the try again or use another good cd t load that file..

Okay, I think I can help you but I need some more information. I'm assuming your Acer laptop currently has a version of Windows XP installed, yes? And Acer gave you a CD to upgrade your OS to a version of Windows Vista?

And when you mean that you go to your BIOS to access the CD, I'm assuming that you are talking about the boot options menu (selecting the cd drive vs the hard drive or floppy drive or what not) correct?

When you select the CD drive to boot from, what exactly happens? Do you get any error message? Does the computer turn off? Does it appear to try to load from the CD and then switch to your hard drive instead (and load your existing operating system)?
