Volume will not stay up on my h p laptop. Keeps sliding back down

From start menu click it then select contron panel after that you double click the sound and you check if all the sound setting is properly set

Fax modem sound volume


Go into the device manager and select the modem to change the volume.

Click Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager then scroll down to Modems and click the + sign next to Modems to expand and see your modem. Right Click on your modem and select Properties. When the Properties window opens up click the Modem tab and then select to change the Speaker Volume. Just slide the volume meter to the right by using your mouse pointer to increase the volume.

Scroll Bar Trouble


Does your mouse have SCROLLBAR UP/DOWN buttons? It sure sounds like your mouse is going bad. I would get a new one, they are cheap.

Change the volume in WMC doesn´t working...


If the remote control causes a visible change with the volume control display but no audible difference, there are only three possible fixes. 1.)Go to Windows "Start > Control Panel > Sounds > Advanced. Here you will find a set of several volume control slide bars each with a check box at the bottom for muting. Un-check any controls marked as muted and raise the volume to 50%. Exit Control Panel. 2.) Many P.C. speaker systems are self amplified and have their own volume controls which supercede anything you do through Windows. 3.)If the problem persists you most likely have a jack plugged into the wrong feed. Allways power OFF and ground yourself before fiddling with computer jacks.

Bougth in my 2004 Compaq; work fine; Last week tried using no sound no recording.


It's possible your volume has been muted. Look down where your clock is, if there's a small speaker icon, click it once. A menu will pop up with the volume controls, and if the "mute" box is checked all you have to do is uncheck it. If the slider is at the bottom of the box, slide it up until you have sound.

If there is no speaker icon, do this: Click Start. Click Control Panel. Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices. This will bring up the sound control, and you need to check the box beside "Place volume icon in the taskbar". Also, there's an option to mute the volume above that; uncheck the box if it's already checked. This will keep the speaker icon down by your clock so you can adjust the volume anytime.

If this doesn't solve your problem, check that your speakers are plugged into the right hole in the back of your PC (not in the microphone jack). There will be little pictures beside each of the jacks so you know which is which. And if your speakers themselves have volume knobs/buttons, make sure they're turned up.

If none of this is helping you, your sound card may have come loose or become defective, so you should have a professional inspect it and possibly replace it. But it's very, very likely that your volume is muted or your speakers are unplugged. You can try using headphones if you think your speakers may be defective!
