Only alarm sound when turn it on

Remove the battery, reboot. Any change? Post the Dell Model and the OS you are using. When you say alarm, do you mean beeping? Try DELL support: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/product_support/dd_segmenter?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Battery has been charging to 100%. Suddenly would only charge to 76 percent. Now, after two weeks, will max at 62 percent. Computer is 1 year old. Can battery meter be recalibrated?

Pulled from Gateway's website:
Do not interrupt the battery recalibration process. If recalibration is interrupted, you must start the process over again.

  1. Close all open files and programs.
  2. Connect your notebook to AC power and allow the battery to completely charge.
  3. Disconnect the AC power and restart your notebook.Note: If the power cord plug.gif or battery baticon.gif icon does not appear on the taskbar, click the show hidden icons showhidden.gif button. If the icon still does not appear, verify thatAlways show icon on the taskbar is checked on the Power Options Properties Advanced tab.

  4. Completely discharge the battery by doing the following:

    1. From the desktop, right-click on the power icon, then select Adjust Power Properties.
    2. Click the Power Schemes tab.
    3. Click the arrow button to open the Power Schemes list, then click Always On.
    4. Click the Alarms tab.
    5. Click to remove the check mark from the Low battery alarm and Critical battery alarm checkboxes. Let the battery drain until your notebook automatically turns off.

  5. After the battery is completely drained, reconnect your notebook to AC power.
  6. Charge the battery completely until the yellow battery status indicator goes out.
  7. When you are ready to use your notebook again, do the following:

    1. From the desktop, right-click on the power icon, then select Adjust Power Properties.
    2. Click the Power Schemes tab.
    3. Click the arrow button to open the Power Schemes list, then click Always On.
    4. Click the Alarms tab.
    5. Click to select the Low battery alarm and Critical battery alarm check boxes.

When i use my laptop with a tilt stand, it shuts down, no reason!

Please check your battery, it is having some loose contact problem OR can you check if the problem persists when it is running normal and you are changing the angle of LCD monitor ?

i am sure the problem is with battery connectivity only. Please get it checked.

Looking for the New battery

There are really only two things to do. First, look into a replacement battery. A search on Google of "Satellite m105 battery" usually yields one or two sources of after-market batteries for around $50.

The second is only if your battery is a NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery. In that case, you can create a power profile in the power or toshiba controls control panels where the computer does not go into hibernation or sleep. Go into the bios and make sure that the computer will not shut down on low power, and you may want to turn off the low power alarm. Then, making sure the computer is not plugged into the AC adapter, let it run until it actually shuts down from draining the battery. Then, don't leave it that way, get it back to a full charge. From then on, if you are working with the computer plugged into AC power from a wall socket, take the battery out.

A good source of info, though it's mainly about NiCd batteries, is: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/

Thanks again...

Sometimes, the battery alarm is set to high or off and it will automatically warn you when the battery is at a certain percentage. Most newer laptops will even warn you when the battery is going bad.

The AC cord is both the power cord and it will also charge the battery when plugged in as well.

So, it's safe to run on just battery as it may just be telling you that it doesn't have AC power and that you're running only on the battery. My Satellite laptop is setup to warn you when it's only on battery power as well.
