If you have not written anything else to the drive, you may be able to use a rescue disk and undelete the files. You may have to purchase the rescue disk with undelete capabilities, which are available via Internet search and purchase by mail. Some will offer overnight or fast shipping of two to three days. Just make sure that it will do what you want it to do.

If not, you will need to reinstall everything starting with the operating system and then adding the applications back in one by one. Either way it will be painful. Good luck.

How to recover data from the raw hard disk

Don't use the drive at all until you are in a position to start a recovery scan.
To do this you need:
A working computer that you can attach this drive to as an extra.
Another drive (external or the boot drive) large enough to save any data
Appropriate software for the data recovery.
The software is the most difficult to specify as some are better at some recoveries than others. I have had some success with Pandora Recovery, available here:
or PC Inspector File Recovery, available here:-
There are many Recovery programmes out there, you may find another you feel happier with, but both the above have worked for me.
Once you have downloaded and installed the software to your computer, read the help/instructions carefully before you start.
Basically there are three steps to recovery :
Firstly a full scan of the affected drive. Be patient this can and often does take hours, especially with larger drives.
Secondly the programme compiles a list of the files it can recover, often with an estimate of the probability of the file being intact and usable after recovery.
Thirdly identifying those files you want to recover and telling the programme where to save them once recovered - NOT the drive you are recovering from.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya

I am attempting to use the recovery disk to replace a damaged/missing kernal file. The software was damageed during the most recent xp "upgrade" (thanks Bill). The Recovery disk starts but then...

I don't know if you are recovering using the hard drive partition or a DVD that you have made from the programme within Tempro. Please clarify as if you are using a DVD there should be no problem with deleting data, it will do that as a matter of course as it re-formats the drive. If however you are using the partition, that is a different matter.
Are you Vista or XP? XP gets upset when deleting files and tends to stop you if it can!

Hopefully you will have more luck if you run Format from the recovery disk. If you can format the drive that will stop the conflicts you are finding.
Any version of Format will work, even an old DOS version, it just stops the file system from fighting back.
A bit of a severe problem if you have to re set your system!
Good luck

Deleted a disk drive partition

You can still view the D partition. Right MY COMPUTER - select MANAGE - on the left hand side select DISK MANAGEMENT.

After selecting, on the right hand side you see the DISK 0 is your primary hard disk.

it is still divided into two. one is allocated which is C (in blue) and unallocated is D (in black)

to merge the partition you can use partition magic.

Formatting a Samsung MP0804H IDE extrernal HDD from NTFS to FAT32

Hi there Dave, well you can use a software called Partition Magic 8 to convert your 80GB hard disk to utilise FAT32. This software is quite user friendly. There are several options for you to choose form in this software including resizing your drive and creating partitions on the fly. However some settings requites a computer restart or reboot in order to complete successfully. This software can be obtained from most software stores or even download form the internet. After installing the software and running it, your drive should show inside the programme; right click on the drive you want to change a setting and select the options available. At the 'Format' button select FAT32. You will be asked for drive letters and cluster size but you can use the default settings, then apply the settings. Once you are done with that select the Okay button in the main programme window and the formatting process will start. Hope this helped you. Cheers :-)
