You don't need a copy to install winxp in your laptop. You need the key of your genuin winxp. If you had a genuin MS winxp OS earlier, find the key. Write it down in a paper. Now use any winxp cd to install and type your key (genuin winxp). You are just fine. This is as good as your previous genuin winxp.
If you need it only to boot then create a recovery disk from from your friend's winxp machine. Use it for booting.

Try connecting an external monitor to your laptop via the 15 pin VGA connector located on the left side of the laptop. If the laptop display is normal on the external monitor then most likely your LCD (liquid crystal display) panel is damaged and needs to be replaced. The spider web effect is due to cracked display panel.

FlashBoot is the easiest product available to build an external boot disk. They provide a free demo version that can test before you pay for the program. FlashBoot can load many different operating systems but the program can also use FreeDOS, which has no additional licensing fees. If you have limited computer experience, this is the way to go.

Boot problem on inspiron 1150

Try connecting it to an external monitor.
When you do, as soon as you press the power button to turn on the laptop, close the laptop lid - as this forces the laptop to display on an external monitor.
If this works, then it means the laptop screen is bad.
If it doesn't, the most likely cause would be that the laptop video card went bad.
For a while, some older Dell laptops with high-end nVidia graphics cards tended to die suddenly.

Hello. It sounds like your external hard drive has crashed, or is getting ready to crash. If you can back up your data, you should do it now. If not, you should get your drive to a professional as soon as possible.

I'll monitor this thread. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Installing win xp from external hard drive

Umm...is your laptop crashed??? Usually ntlldr issues ****. try to delete the former installation so a new ntldr file can be installed so as to not conflict with the damaged ntldr file that is on the pc blocking the install. It sounds like your setup is ok...at the very least get another xp cd to make sure the disk is not damaged that you are loading windows from.

Cannot install win xp

Hi Phine_24,
I think you've problem with Harddisk.Try to find spare one and install again it should work. Very strange is that if you remove your hardisk out and test externally it should sometime work fine but sometime fail.I think it's a starting sector or some check up that windows or hardware need and it couldn't access it.
goodluck,takecare.
