Question about Canon PowerShot S5 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Purchased my S5 IS second hand (buyer beware!) and everything seems to work perfectly except the viewfinder is blurry. I can just make out the wording of the info around the edges but end up reverting to using the LCD screen instead to view . Great quality pics but find this annoying as I'm used to using the viewfinder - especially in bright light. Any ideas?

There's a diopter control near the viewfinder to adjust the viewfinder to your eye. Try adjusting that while peering into the viewfinder and try to get the focus brackets and the data at the bottom of the viewfinder into focus.

What are they wprth still in perfect condition 4 years old

The value wopuld have reduced to almost less than half of the presetn value of a new set( incidentely the value of TV's are dropping except when they are launched). Also the second hand buyers are limited buyers so you cannot expecct much out unless someone gets crazy.
otherwise keep it on use till it serves you well

Nikon D80. It worked fine until recently (maybe after I took pictures during whale-watching in a heavy rain and camera got wet). Now the view in the viewfinder is kind of greyish and blurry. Focus area...

Seems like your problem on greyish/blurry viewfinder is caused by the camera getting water logged. Get your cam cleaned by Nikon.

The flashing red light usually happens if you have this indicator set in the camera. This may not necessarily be an error.. just a setting that you have put in place in your menu.

Well said John. We have all purchased a cheap tool along the way only to find that it was truly made only to be sold, not to actually use. On the other hand, some quality tools are so very expensive. I have finally concluded that a tool I only use once in a blue moon is best to rent, not purchase outright.

Whats wrong with my viewfinder?

Try adjusting the viewfinder diopter. It's a little wheel next to the viewfinder that adjusts to your eyesight.

Really Dark Viewfinder

That would explain the darkness if the lens is stopped down. It would seem the aperture control is faulty on the camera body. Normally, the aperture remains open until you take the picture. It is only closed down while the shutter is open.
