How do you access the heating element and overtemp thermostat?

  • Anonymous May 01, 2009

Does not dry consistently on automatic dry, clothes are still very damp when it stops. Does better on timed dry, But still does not seem to dry very well.

Below is a link to assist you in identifying, ordering parts, and disassembly procedures diagrams.
Before you do that though, you may have a tripped circut breaker or a blown fuse, so the first thing to do is to verify that you have 240 volts to the dryer. Verifying this could save you a lot of time and money. A $10.00 multimeter. available at most hardware stores. will allow to verify your voltage and help to diagnose all the electrical parts in the dryer
If this helps, please rate my assistance to you, or post me back if I can be of more help.

Maytag PYET244AYW Electric dryer

could be an overheated motor, but always clean venting and make sure it is under 20' with fewer than 4 elbows. mat'l should be metal. filter housing sometimes get clogged also, look inside and remove any lint build-up. there should be very strong flow of air out vent with hose removed.

It could very well be a thermostat problem, however, it could also be the drive motor itself starting to burn out. Some dryers are equipped with a "Thermal Limiter" that will cut the power to heat. It doesn't seem to be the case for you. I would defiantely look into another thermostat but if it comes down to the motor, depending on the price, You may want to buy a new dryer.
