Question about Canon ZR300 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Making noise My ZR300 is making a noise similar to a wind up car toy. It will say it is recording but upon playback the recording is usually a blue screen and then a quick picture shows (pixelilated). It sounds like the motor is not starting and stopping.

The noise starts as soon as you turn on the camera. It sounds like a wind up toy with a high pitch reving.

I would take that into a repair and have someone look at it. It could be serious.

Are wind-up toys dangerous for toddlers?

Usually wind-up toys should not be given to children under the age of three.
It is true that wind-up toys have the upside of moving and turning thanks to wind-up mechanisms and therefore don't need any electrical element that could be dangerous for kids. However, as wind-up toys are sometimes very small or have small parts that easily come off, whoever is taking care of the toddler should be aware of the wind-up toy's elements and make sure that they won't come off if the toddler puts the toy in his mouth, or that the toy itself isn't small enough to be swallowed, causing soffocation.

Static noise when playing back recording, sounds like the wind

This camera has a single Mic - make sure your finger isn't over it though -- try making a recording in a closed room - no wind noise - is there still static ??
Go through settings and see what choices there are -- like outdoor , indoor . close to subject etc.
My CAM had a close up and background button - which was a sensitivity setting - and the background setting picked up EVERY sound from miles around and filled the tape with noise. The close up setting only picked up sound from bout 2 - 3 meters.
Do you also have an external plug for a Mic ? this would also check whether it's the camera mic or recording that is at fault ??

What does wrong format mean with a canon zr300 camcorder? My buddy shot some footage on a high end camera and my zr300 camera at playback reads "wrong format playback not possible.

Different camcorders have different recording formats. Some ar HD, some are 16x9, etc.

A camera that isn't designed for a particular pre-recorded format cannot playback that recording.

2005 XC90 T6 AWD making a whirling noise upon acceleration

Add me to the list. Just got back from a Volvo dealership in Chicago and was told the 'winding' noise we're experiencing during deceleration in our 2004 XC90 is due to a failing transmission,so i would suspect the same accelerating. hope all works out for you

Sony Hi8 CCD trv308 NTSC making noise during recording that is audible on playback. Sounds like some moving parts related to turning the tape are not moving as smoothly as they should. Is there anyone...

I had this problem with one of these otherwise very cool cams that I inherited. Something was rubbing on the case of the cassette making a usually faint but audible grinding noise. It is hard to see unless you push the tiny lever on the side of the cassette and flip up the plastic flap that protects the tape. There was a small visible gray grind mark on the center of the case. Now when I buy a new tape I flip open the cassette and carefully scrape away enough plastic on the center of the cassette where it rubs (you can run it a bit and it will grind and show you where) so there is clearance. It worked!!

Poor sound quality

You will have to test all the components in the hook-up for the source of the problem.Try recording to the dvd from some other source and see if you have the same level of noise on the playback. If you do then you have a problem with the dvd players or in the connections between the components.Assuming the speakers are not making the noise problem. You should check you cable set-up for interactive noise being produce from too many cables to close together or too close to a noise source and picking up noise from the source. To test this try isolatilating the cables from each other and other possible noise sources, like a/c lines and high magnetic field situations. If you solve your problem with this then you know its your hook-up having noise pick-up problems from a external source. Next try isolating the noise source by disconnecting components and cables fronm the hook-up until you find the problem. This could be a ground problem either in the source of the noise or in the cables. Try improving the grounding of the system by using new cables and earth grounds if possible. If the problem is in one of the components, it maybe several problems. Noisy amplifiers or components in the signal path. If the units being use are of some age it might be time to have them checked for such problems as aging components, like capacitors and ringing resistors in the signal path. This can be tested with a oscilloscope checking the signal path of the preamplifier sections and output amplifiers sections of the components. The testing can also show you, the amount of distortion on the signal at various stages of your recording and playback signal paths. You are probably getting high ripple content somewhere in the signal path from bad grounds or aging components. This noise is causing the distortion that you are hearing amplified from you speakers. if the cables are not the problem and it is some component in you system it is best to locate it and take it in for service. You can use your owners manuals to find the information for support for your products. I hope this has helped you with your problem.

Revving noise-wont record

Turns out the rubber disc grip on the spindle simply needs to be cleaned (using an alcohol wipe). This is the part that holds the disc firm while it's spinning...the noise and failed disc reads comes from this rubber getting dirty and allowing the disc to slip. Total time to fix including disassembly was less than 15 minutes!

Choppy recording and playback

If the heads become dirty, “NEED HEAD
CLEANING” appears during recording. During
playback, moreover, the following symptoms
appear.
≥Mosaic-like noise appears partially or the
sound is interrupted.
≥Black or blue mosaic-like horizontal stripes
appear.

When normal playback cannot be performed
even after the head cleaning
One possible cause is that normal recording
could not be performed because the heads were
dirty at the time of recording. Clean the heads,
and perform recording and playback again. If
normal playback can be performed, the heads are
clean. Before an important recording, be sure to
conduct a test recording to make sure that normal
recording can be performed.
≥If the heads become dirty soon after cleaning,
the problem may be the tape. If so, try another
cassette.
≥During playback, the picture or sound may be
interrupted momentarily, but this is not a
malfunction of the Camcorder. (One possible
cause is that the playback is interrupted by dirt
or dust that momentarily adheres to the heads.)
