Problem for Canon Digital Cameras
Generic problem for all Canon Digital Cameras
I have the HV 20
I have the HV 20 HD camcorder. I need to erase ALL THE STILL PHOTOS AND yet I think I accidently "protected" them and they won't erase. I need help with both unprotecting and erasing all the photos. Can you help me please?

- I did look in the book and that's why I posed the question here.
I don't understand what "just initialize the card" means. what the heck does Initialize the card mean. I barley know where the card is. What you need to tell me is step 1. click this. step 2. push that and tell WHERE THE BUTTON OR CLICK IS.
Thanks - often times experts forget that newbies don't even understand the words used in these so called instructions.

- WOW! I did it! It worked! Now of course you are my hero and yes I will take your suggestion....
In the future I will "request step-by-step instructions". Sorry that you were frustrated. You were dealing with a person who hates to read all those endless instructions Re: everything from vacuum cleaners to cell phones! It is exhausting. I really do care about using this wonderful camcorder which I really couldn't afford and I hope you will be there in the future when I get stuck on something else. Can't thank you enough. You have made my day!

Image protection and erasing are covered on pages 64 and 65 of the manual (you can view/download the manual
here). If you are going to erase
all images, you can just initialize the card (see page 65). It will erase all images, even protected ones.

- I apologize. You seemed to have some understanding of what had happened and what needed to be done to correct the issue, so I assumed that you understood the menu system and moving around in it.
Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy an HV20 so all I have to go by is the manual. But I will try to figure out the steps based on the manual.
1. With the card inserted, set the tape/card selector switch (on the right side of the unit) to Card, and the Power switch to Play.
2. Press the Func switch (back of unit near bottom). Use the Joystick (above Func switch) to scroll down to Menu on the LCD. Press the Set switch (push in on joystick).
3. You should see Card Operations highlighted on LCD. Press the Set switch again.
4. Scroll to Initialize. Press the Set switch again.
5. Scroll to Compl. Init. Press the Set switch again.
6. Scroll to Yes. Press the Set switch again.
May I suggest that in the future you request step-by-step instructions, so that neither you nor the person trying to help you gets frustrated. (Obviously, I don't think that this deserves the rating of 'Inappropriate'.)
