Check for any utilities that might be installed by hp/compaq ... you can also check the control panel for anything referencing power management (but not the windows based one)..

You can also check the BIOS ( i think hitting F2 or F11 once the laptop boots up) and go through the options.

Computer compaq nc 6000 powers on for about 8 seconds, turns off

Could be either the power supply, the power supply connector plug on the motherboard, or a defective/loose stick of RAM. Is the connector on the computer wiggly? If not, can you get access to a multimeter, so you can check the output voltage of the power supply?

Please help

could be a problem with the battery, power adapter, memory or motherboard. Remove the battery and try turning on the computer with just the power adapter. If no go, test another power adapter. try another battery. Reseat the memory modules, or try using other working memory modules. You may also check this HP support site: http://tinyurl.com/dn44m2

Processor question Compaq nc6000

Check your power management settings and make sure that your settings are not set to decrease CPU speed in order to conserve battery power. You can usually adjust it those settings manually (try the custom tab)

Sometimes, some motherboards might require an updated bios to resolve speed related issues. This would be your last step if power management tweaking fails.

Oh, check your bios, there are CPU throtteling settings that might solve this issue.
