At end of wash door will not open even after hours

Thanks. Is there any overriding button that will allow me to open the door and remove the washing, as a workaround?

It sound as if I will need to call out a technician tomorrow? Thanks Trish

  • trishmoyniha Nov 14, 2010

Thanks to both of you for your solutions. I needed a quick fix to enable me to retrieve the imprisoned washing. The technician said that if you press against the door this can release the door mechanism enabling removal of the washing. In fact when he tried the door it opened right away!?!? duh??? However on further testing it did indeed fail requiring the door locking mechanism to be replaced.

Both of you were correct - however nobody had a quick fix. However if you think you helped then can you share the fee between you? Thanks Trish

Hi
These kind of issues occur when the door switch doesn't sense that the cycle is complete. It may happen due to a faulty door switch or loose wiring from the door switch. Unplug the washer and try opening the door. If it still doesn't open then you'll need to replace the door switch assembly. Door switch is a Bi-metal type switch which when needs a signal to unlock. If the wiring is loose or the door switch assembly is faulty it will not unlatch. Hope this helps.... Please post back if further assistance is required.

Dishes not cleaning after full cycle running

Your screens are plugged with food residue in the bottom of the unit. clean it out. You can use 1 gallon of white vinegar for your wash after you clean the screens. Start your washer to fill with water but after the water starts, open your door and pore all of the gallon in the unit. Let it now run for 4 minutes and stop it by opening the door. Leave the door slightly open for 1 hour. close the door and let the cycle continue for 4 more minutes. open the door and repeat it a couple of more times. Let it sit all night with the vinegar in it and in the morning - close the door and let the cycle continue to the end. This should help soften and clean out the food particles in the unit. You can repeat the process and get a better cleaning then too. All the scale should be off your dishes now.

sounds like your German washing machine is working rather harshly...the heating issue and door locking are separate ones..

The door on my Hotpoint Washing Machine WT741 won't open even though the programme has ended. We've tried running the programme again and pumping out but still the door won't open.

The door latch may have broken. You can sometimes open the door from the inside. You will know the door latch is broken if the door handle is floppy. If the door handle is not floppy - then the issue is probably with the door interlock. This is the electronic part that prevents the door from being opened during and after the wash has finished.
Either way - you'll need to get the door open.
To do this, unplug the washing machine from the mains and then move it out from where it is. Tip the washing machine to a 45 degree angle. Don't tip it over 45 degrees as you may break internal parts.
You need two people to do this - one person hold the machine at 45 degrees angle, whilst the other person puts their hand up into the machine - you should be able to feel the door catch mechanism and depending on the model, open the door that way. Sometimes the manufacturer has helpfully put a manual release inside - and sometimes they don't.
If you aren't able to open the door using that method. Get a length of strong string and poke the middle section of the string into the gap between the washer door and the machine body - to the right of the door handle. Use a flat headed screw drive to push the string into the gap, all the way around the door, so that you end up with the two ends of the string on the left hand side of the door. Now have someone put the ends of the string whilst the other person pulls the door handle. If the string is pushed in far enough it will release the door latch and the door will open. It takes a bit of persistence to get it right.
Once you have the door opened you can usually replace either the interlock mechanism or the door latch itself. Parts are easily available online from sites like espares and yourspares.

Door wont open on washing machine zwf16581w at the end of the cycle

The door is designed to stay shut at the end of a cycle usually for about 4 minutes, even if you switch the machine off at the mains. Other than that you probably need a repair.

On completion of wash and spin, door will not open for hours. Any ideas?

It has a safety switch that locks the door shut. It is a capacitor two resistors and a diode. There is a coil on the handle. The capacitor charges up and activates the coil. Then at the end the resistors use up the remaining power about 30sec. Then the door opens. Sounds like either the resistor or resistors are open or a loose solder joint on them.

Door won't unlock at end of cycle.

This is usually a control board problem or a bad door switch. Often hard to separate which one as it is controlled from the board anyway.
If clothes are currently inside unplug the machine and leave for an hour and the door will be able to be opened.

Sometimes this even cures the problem for a while.

Thanks for using fixya

I have a front loader washing machine that wont let me open the door even though the wash cycle ended hours ago

could be a door lock problem. try hitting the door lock a couple of times, the latch could release the hook.

another solution if you have your manual, it is stated there how to open manually your door.

there is a plastic hook at the back of the switch with a ring at the end, you can pull the ring down and the door will open.

in order to get to the plastic, you need to remove the front lower panel. remove 3 screws that are holding it.

tnx 4 using fixya,
