Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

1 Answer

Acer Aspire 5000 Monitor screen; bottom two thirds are unusable

I have a problem where the bottom two thirds of the screen on my laptop are unusable. When the system boots up I am unable to view the bottom two thirds of the screen. I am therefore unable to even login. If I open and close the laptop cover a number of times I am somtimes able to get it to work. The full screen comes up visible. That implies to me a loose connection somewhere. I am not certain where to start looking for something like this. Could you help?

HOW TO GET THE BACK OFF

Break it off..........

In order to take the Base Enclosure (Bottom Cover) off, you would have to break it off.

The Acer Aspire 5000 series of Notebook PC's, disassembles from the Top down. When you are done you are looking at an empty Base Enclosure,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ACER-ASPIRE-3000-3004-ZL5-5000-LAPTOP-BOTTOM-CASE-COVER-LOWER-BASE-3AZL5BATN05-/181127078788

You have to;
Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
Remove the Harddrive Compartment Cover, Harddrive, Memory Compartment Cover, Ram Memory, Wireless Module, Wireless Antenna wires out of laptop body, Optical Disk Drive, (DVD drive), Display Assembly, (LCD Module), Keyboard Cover, Keyboard, Palm Rest Cover, Motherboard, and so on..........

Then you have the Base Enclosure. (Bottom Cover)

WEAR an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source.

Monitor won't come on

Debi,

Should like to have the manufacturer name, and model number of laptop.
The model number can be found on the Bottom.

For example, Acer Aspire 5552

That would be all I need.

Secondly, do you have access to an external monitor?

Thirdly, with the laptop on I would like you to shine a flashlight, at the LCD screen of the laptop.
Shine at various angles.

Do you see a faint image?

Please post in a Comment.

If you dropped your laptop and the screen got broken, there is no way to fix it via any software change. But you have two options:

  1. Connect an external monitor via VGA port, more information here
  2. Get fixed it by Acer service
