Question about Whirlpool Dishwashers

1 Answer

We have a whirlpool dishwasher about 3 yrs old that does not clean very good any more. I understand there is a filter that can get plugged with paper (from labels) or residue. Is there an easy fix?

My dishwasher is about 4 yrs old and doesn't clean the dishes. I have tried the usual remedies and nothing seems to work. The glasses especially not only come out streaked, they retain chocolate or lip...

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description you`re experiencing the same thing 99% of folks with this type of dishwasher do...eventually.

The good news is it is likely just a clogged up or dirty sump assembly.

Here`s what you can do, I find removing the top rack to be the best place to start.

However I also find sometimes visual "how to" instructions are better than explanations, therefor I`ve attached a video for you to check out.

This should help you get to the pump filter, spray arm and check for food deposit, broken glass, undissolved detergent and general water deposit built up in the sump well.

The key is to get in there and clean it all out, This will be applicable to most Whirlpool, Inglis, Kenmore, Kitchen-Aid, Jenn-Air.

When you`re finished run it through a test cycle and see how it goes. You may even want to run it empty with just a bowl of "white vinegar" on the top rack for a dishwasher bath.

Let me know how you make out and what you find.

Good luck.

Miele Advanta G2170 working fine 2 yrs, suddenly starts popping breakers and won't run (on any outlet) Electrical system in home is about 3 yrs old only.

Hi dear.If the washer is tripping circuit breaker,as long as you plug in,there is a Interference filter capacitor inside of the machine.Main power gets connect there first. It should be faulty & needs to be replaced.I hope that helps Thanks.

We have a 17.5" Kenmore built in dishwasher. For the past 3 wks. It just doesn't clean the dishes. It's only 3 yrs. Old.

If the striner is clogged clean it.

Refer user manual.

My Bosch dishwasher is only 2 yrs old and for the following two nights does not want to pump out the water. If I drain it, it sometimes starts the cycle and sometimes not?

If no warning lights show up, then it is a matter of finding if the outlet is blocked somewhere. I am assuming the fact you can drain it manually means the pump is ok. Perhaps some sensor which is covered in muck.

I would start by cleaning the filters at the base and then running the unit with a dishwasher cleaning kit (without dishes in it). Finish cleaning kit is quite good and the instructions are on the pack.

By the way these units normally have a 2 to 3 year warranty on some parts. I am assuming you have the proof of purchase so that you can call the Bosch support guys.

Washer won't fully drain.

If this washer has a self cleaning filter(cone shaped) it's probably plugged. Also could be the pump or the belt. Good luck..

My whirlpool dishwasher clean light blinks on and off,and I can no longer run dishwasher.Unit is only 3 to 4 years old

Hi- One of two things- fault in touchpad/control, or bad motor. If you pull bottom kick panel, with a bright light look underneath for water deposits on botom of aluminum motor case. Any motor seal leak will show up here. If you see any crud on bottom, motor must be replaced. Not uncommon to fail 3-4 yrs.Anyway- motor is about 100$ - control 150-175$ Labor varies.- Hope this helps- ED

Try Running Goo Gone Through It Although It Smells Like Oranges It Removes Stains As Strong As Sap. Also Try Running The Dry Cycle While Its Empty Two Or Three Times.
