Question about HP Pavilion ze4420us Notebook

2 Answers

During upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2011 my HP Pavilion ZE4420us network adapters stopped working as Windows XP couldn't seem to load the drivers anymore. The adapters were still visible in the Device Manager, but Task Manager said there were no active network adapters. I uninstsalled Norton Internet Security 2011 and reinstalled Norton Internet Security 2009, and now the adapters have disappeared from Device Manager, too. Scanning for hardware changes turns up nothing. Any idea what's going on here? Thansk!

XP is dead, now for 3 long years, at HP.
XP is a virus magnet,
See the news yesterday, see UK HSA hospitals all goes dead from the cyberatack,? worm.? Ransome attack ?
XP is hopeless.
MS stopped supporting it 3 long years ago....
both HP and MS ended support, (why ignore this fact>?)

if this PC is still good. (hardware)
if this PC hard drive is still original with HP HDD in place.
power on press F10, this reloads the OS. XP
from the HP magic partitions, bingo back to day one.
on newer HP this key is F11 (VISTA and newer , IIRC)

why not pray tell up grade to W7,
why run XP, are you looking for worse to happen????
like HSA? did and will continue to do ... endlessly?

where is your media kit from HP
do so , is wise. if XP is fun , (not)
here is the link to ask
get the Media kit, and reload XP.
then all drivers work like day one.
HP even has a 3rd party supplying these old kits for OLD PCs
if your read this and tell them what you have
there is a solution
why ask on fixya, why not ask on
ask the maker direct and WIN.

Yes ... I think it might be a rootkit. Do you have access to the FREE Hiren's Boot CD? If so, you could use the program "Testdisk" to check for rootkits ... which most antivirus programs CANNOT find!

SOURCE: WLan / broadcom hardware disappears

When you say the hardware does not show up do you mean in device manager? Try reloading the device by adding new hardware and selecting the device manually thereby forcing it to see the driver.

weird. Try using Windows System Restore to revert back to before installing dameon tools. You can try installing it again but I would re-download just to be safe. It it happens again you might want to try alcohol 120% instead.

Slow internet speed with hp pavilion, windows 8, internet explorer 10

My suggestion to remove both McAfee and Norton, they slow down the PC to a crawl. Also they bring all sorts of toolbars and unwantedness.

The free and light use antivirus is the one built into Windows, or if you are rocking Windows 7, Microsoft security essentials. Another one would be malwarebytes as a second layer of defense.

NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2011 just installed from CD. All seems ok but... When I switch on the computer I get the speech bubble saying "automatic updates is turned off. Click here to fix the problem....

I think you are confusing the Windows Update with the Norton Automatic update.

Please open your Norton product and see if the status is at "Secure" on the top of the program.
If it is secure with a green mark, you need not worry.

If it shows at "Risk", do the following steps:
Check if the Windows update is turned on or off.
Check if the computer's date and time is running correctly
If the problem still persist, reinstalling the Norton program will definitely fix the issue

To reinstall we need to first download the setup file from the link, which will download the latest version of Norton Internet Security.

Double click the downloaded file and that will remove the existing version and install the latest version.

Everytime i try to install norton internet security 2011 on my computer running windows xp it says the program that you try to install has detected as malware and it cancelled the installation..

Seems like you have virus or malware on your computer. Download malwarebytes from and run a scan. Remove anything that malwarebytes suggest. You should also run a scan in safemode. After you have done this you should try to install Norton Internet Security 2011 again.

How do i upgrade my norton internet security 2009 to 2010 and on windows 7

You can get Norton 2010 program with an active subscription of your Norton 2009 program after it's release. You can use the Upgrade Center for installing Norton 2010 upgrade(free). So, better renew the subscription of your Norton 2009 program.During Beta testing, Norton 2010 program is tested in Windows 7 and so you will surely get 2010 program for Windows 7.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

No, you cannot. But, you may purchase a PCMCIA adapter (that credit-card sized slot in your laptop) that adds two USB 2.0 ports.

I wish to install Windows Vista Home Premium. I already have Windows XP. I pay for Norton Internet Security by direct debit through Tiscali and have done so since, 2006. I have run Norton Liveupdate. ...

You will need to cancel your Norton subscription and use one of their products that is suitable for Vista. May I suggest that you purchase Norton Internet security 2009 for a single payment of about 70 dollars.
