Whirlpool calypso washing machine

The washing machine is coming on for about 4 secs. and then stops and starts again and it won't drain the water out of the machine, what could be wrong gvw9959k whirlpool calypso washer

Has there been a resolution for this? My wife called the Sears repair folks and when they get here a few days later it works for a couple of days and then quits again.

I replaced the pump, but the spin starts and stops every few seconds. I ran through the tests and it runs fine at the various speeds.

Disconnected the pump from the motor and it still happened. The pump moter turns and will start the spin cycle for a brief moment then stop. It will cycle like that, until the cows come home! I did notice the pump motor was hot.

If it is starting for 4sec then stopping then it is a problem of your power because of that it is getting of and not working further. another option you could try is deep cleaning, oiling and servicing off every visible part you can which may clear the dust or any blockagethat is stopping your machine to go further.if still cannot get it right.call the technicans from the authorized service centre of your product they will charge you little bit heavy but make it work for long time without any problem.and you will also give you the warranty of the parts for six months which other local technicans do not give.so be your boss and go for it. rate the solution if this helped you any way thank u for using fixya.

heres something to try, as i think you should check the motor first. Since you just replaced the pump.

It could be a mechanical binding. Check for free movement of drive
mechanism. We can also check for drive motor failure By checking the drive motor windings for proper resistances. Which i can help you through. Also Check wiring connectors on the pump and motor.

The reason the water doesn't drain is because the machine is unable to actually reach the cycle. It shuts off within 4 seconds of starting..Most likely it the transmission.

Here’s a simple way of determining whether the problem is with your washer’s transmission or some other part like a clutch or a drive coupler.

Remove the cabinet and jumper the lid switch. Put the unit in spin and watch the shiny metal clutch disc that is on top of the transmission where the shaft comes out. If the machine starts and runs in spin, check to see if the disc is spinning. If it is, then problem is in the basket drive or the tub drive block.

If, on the other hand, the disc is NOT spinning, check for a problem with motor coupling or one of its retainers. You need to actually remove the motor to do this.

If all that looks good, then you need a new transmission.

Try this manual, it is written by the manufacturer of this washer, not some third-party. With over 60 pages of detailed technical information, photographs, diagrams, and illustrations, you’ll be able to easily do any repair on your Calypso washer using this manual. It’s written in a clear, easy-to-understand style so that even if you’re a technical neophyte, you can easily handle even the most complex repairs on this washer:

You will not get a CODE if the circuitry is at fault. If that is the case then you will have to replace the control board as well.

Try the solutions provided so far. If you have difficulty with any one one them, it would indicate that you cannot attempt this yourself. It would be best to get the assistance of a pro. If you wish, you can put in your ZIP code in the box marked "Repair Service" at the right of this chat box. You will be able to find a service center lose to you. Just mention that you were referred by Fixya, and you should get a discount..

    Hope that helps!

HI,

Please CLICK HERE for some usefull info.

If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.

It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

  • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

  • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution

I had the same problem as well.....The previous reply about the old style pump (with the 2 clips) remove it and clean out the impellar. The new style pump is much better and stronger actually.....

Also, in your tub....is there a "gap" between the wash plate (the round thing at the bottom) and the stainless steel tub?? Is the plastic gasket/seal bent up a little bit to there is now a "gap"??? If there is ......read on....

Small items, ie/socks, underwear, small baby towels etc...will find their way through that gap and into the steel basin. In that basin are several holes which the water shoots in from....From time to time those small items may pass through those holes and into the plastic tub that holds the steel tub. Once in there it can (and probably will) block the pump....This happened to me !!!

Remedy is to change the outer wash plate and the inner wash plate seal (very important)...also the seals for the 6 bolts !!! (very important)

It's not that hard to do yourself...
I hope this helps

Calypso washer won't drain

It sounds like you may have something stuck in the pump...try and locate the pump(normaly at the bottom of machine)and unscrew the cover...be aware that the machine may still have water in it....once you unscrew the cover, have a look and a feel inside...there may be a coin or other object stoppint the pump from turning...remove any foreighn object...replace the screw on cover and try to drain the water again....this should solve your problem.

When running wash cycle, the washer stops during initial cycle when water is going into tub. The "Ld" error code comes up on the panel and sometimes it is accompanied by a humming sound. Can not start...

LD is long Drain.

You'll need to crawl underneath and disconnect the hoses to check the traps for obstructions.
Have a pan handy to catch the water.

Won't fillCalypso whirlpool washer model#GVW9959KQ1 LD on display

LD is long drain error, the machine does not fill because it is in fault mode, but error is on drain system.

If there is a drain problem, the parts that must be checked are drain hose, pressure switch, drain pump assembly, timer control.

Check if the drain hose at the back is kinked or blocked.

Test the pressure switch, blow into the small hose, and use a multimeter to check if switch has continuity.

Remove access panel and get to the drain pump hose to check for ablockage. You will need to disconnect the hose and collect the water.

Keep a container ready to collect water when you undo pump hose.

Ifall the rest is OK, test and eventually replace timer board.Problemwith water pump are far more commonly causing this problemsthenfaulty timer board.

Ld error code won`t drain.or do anything starts for 10 sec and stops

Owner manual - Code Ld -says the drain hose is kinked or clogged.

Check that the hose didn't get kinked when pushed back to the wall. It's a common problem. The problem is NOT the wall drain as water would be coming out onto the floor if that was the issue.

YOU NEED TO 1ST DRAIN OUT AS MUCH WATER MANUALLY AS YOU CAN THEN DISCONNECT ALL YOUR HOSES FROM WALL TAKE THE WM OUTSIDE TO DRAIN THE OTHER 3 GALLONS OF WATER YOU CANNOT SEE. TURN THE MACHINE ON ITS BACK THEN USING A 5/16 NUT DRIVER REMOVE 4 SCREWS ON THE BOTTOM PANEL. REMOVE PANEL AND YOUR DRAIN MTR IN ASSESSIBLE. THE PART CAN BE ORDERED AT WWW.REPAIRCLINIC.COM

Calypso - water goes straight to drain hose-not drum

the hose may still be filled from last cycle. try to put machine in final spin mode where all water from previous wash will be spun out the drain hose. once a siphon is started it can only be stopped by introducing air into the drain hose.
