The easiest way would be to disconnect the ethernet cable from your computer and plug it into the PS3. The PS3 doesn't care if it shares a cable as it really only meeds one when you want to be online. There is no setting for the "cable" all you do is unplug from the back of your computer and then plug it into the PS3; reverse when you are finished playing.

I hope this answers your question.

Only router can give you proper NAT settings that can allow you to play online. Since you have a USB internet stick, try to buy a USB to Ethernet converter first. Then you can now use a router

Connects but no internet connection being allowed through.

You should configure your Router as a "router" or as a bridge. Usually, you can access the router's IP via web service (using http://ip.address.of-this.router). In this web access, you can modify your router configuration to act as router or bridge, also you have to specify the DNS, DHCP configuration as well.
Maybe with posting your Type of router, i could help you more with it...

I cant play online without the modem being by my ps3?

Yes, using a longer ethernet cord will work, but the PS3 has a bult-in WiFi card that can connect to any wireless router (you can buy a wireless router from a computer store like BestBuy).

If you are going to buy a wireless router, see if a wireless G-mimo or wireless N with signal boost is within your budget. Try looking through the network settings to see if you can connect through the wireless router.

Or just get a longer ethernet cord and run it directly to the PS3 from the router. Ethernet cords are the most reliable connection, granted you are on a good internet connection, they won't get interference from things like mobile phones, cordless phones, microwaves, TV's etc.

I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the only thing I like better about the PS3 is the free online game play and Blue-Ray. Other than that, they're even. Good luck and have fun online! If you find me (wraith0127) say hi! Don't forget to rate. Thank you!

When playing ps3 game live i get kicked off the games what is going on

Are you running the live game play through the internal WiFi card or a wired Ethernet cable? If you can try hooking up an Ethernet cable and it solves the problem, you are getting interference from something and you'll have to move the PS3 closer to your router or just try to keep it on the Ethernet cable for online play. That's what I use because it is much more reliable and much faster than WiFi.

If you are running with an Ethernet cable and you are still having problems, the problem may not be with your PS3 but with your router or internet connection. Try moving the cable to another outlet on the router. Check your network settings on the PS3 amd try to set up the network to automatically detect settings.

Depending on the game, you may be kicked off by other users in the game. I've had that happen a couple times because everyone's a critic.

I hope this helps. Good luck and have fun online! Don't forget to rate! Thank you!

I have no computer or cable and need to set up internet on my PS3

??? A router will NOT replace your modem; the router won't work without the modem. If you're going to give advice, please make sure it is somewhat correct.

Okay. So first you need the telephone cord to go from the phone jack into the DSL port on your modem. Then you need the Ethernet cable that came with your modem (looks like a phone cord but much bigger) to go from the ethernet port in the back of the modem into the wan or internet port on the router. Verify that the DSL and internet lights are on on the modem.

For the rest of the setup, watch this . It will walk you step by step in connecting your PS3 to the wireless internet. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Can it be done?

All of the ps3 models support wired and wireless internet. All you need is high speed internet service, and a router (wireless router if you want wireless internet o.~) you plug the router into your high speed modem via ethernet cable. then you plug your computer and ps3 into the router with ethernet cables. your good to go! if you want wireless for your ps3 you need to use the wireless setup on the ps3. your done :)

Hope this helps.

Internet connection

the Ps3 should connect fine, if you have your wired router set up right to automatically assign ip addresses...(DHCP)..in otherwords, anyone who comes over with a computer from anywhere..even me..should be able to plug a lan cable in to your router and it should connect without changing any settings. If this is true, then you should be able to go into your settings menu, select wired connection type, hook up your lan cable...then select auto and east for the settings for ethernet. this should work, if any pc works. If not, you may have to call AOL for info on how to properly configure your router and PS3. The network issue is most likely a AOL issue, and not a PS3 issue.

Ps3 wireless

It depends... If you use a router for the Internet then you don't need any cable, just turn on the router and then go to the PS3 and configure the PS3 to work with the router. If you have wired internet, then you will need an Ethernet cable, but since the PS3 comes with an Ethernet cable, you don't need to buy one. With the Ethernet cable, you have 2 options. If your modem has an Ethernet port, then just connect the PS3 to the modem directly. If the modem doesn't have an Ethernet port or direct connection won't work, then you can use Internet Connection Sharing to connect your PS3 to the Internet.
