Sounds like one of two issues,

1. You have the internal display turned off. When you turn the laptop on you should hear a single beep. Do you see the Sony Logo during bootup? Have you tried to turn the display back on? Try pressing the Fn+F7, or Fn+F8, key combination. There are only three modes and these key combinations allow you to cycle through these modes. Either the Primary Screen is on, or the External Screen is on, or both are on.

2. You may have a bad video card or the screen is dead. When you power up the laptop, can you see a glow, but the screen is black? Can you see the Bootup Screen with the Sony Logo, but barely? Have you tried to connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if the video card is working? If you get video to the external monitor, the video card is working. If you don't, then the video card may be bad. If you are getting video on the external monitor, try using the key combinations listed above and try to cycle through your Internal/External display modes. If nothing shows up on the laptop display then the LCD screen may be bad. It could be the back light. Those are internal to the LCD. That means you will have to replace the entire LCD display on the laptop.

Hope that helps.

i do not get a beep at all. how can i chech lcd

If you are not getting a beep, then the issue may not be video.

You may have a bad power supply or the motherboard has gone bad.

I would suggest that you get a replacement power supply and plug that in. Also, remove the battery and then plug the power supply into the laptop, and then power it on. Do you see any of the LED lights come on? If so, which ones? If not LED's light up, then your motherboard is dead. If you get some LED lights one, which ones? This will tell me what the issue is and better help you in finding out what is wrong.

    Let me know.

Ok. Do these lights come on with the battery plugged in, or with it out.

Doing research on your issue. With what info you have given me, you may have an issue with the RAM Memory. On the underside of your laptop there should be a cover that allows access to the memory. With the power unplugged and the battery removed, remove that cover and remove the memory. Put the memory back in, making sure that you have good contact, and then close the cover. Power up the laptop.

Let me know what the status is.

Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen. If you can see an image, you probably need to replace the power inverter board. It supplies power to the backlight.

Black screen on my labtop, can't see a thing

This sounds like a ram or memory issue. If your computer is under warranty I would contact the manufacturer. If it is not, I would find a manual and reseat the ram. All notebooks vary so I would not be able to tell you where it is specifically. The process is you pull out the ram, and put it back in.

If you feel uncomfortable doing this any local computer repair store should be able to take care of this for you.

Also, is the screen turning on, I mean can you tell if the screen is actually on. There may be a problem with the monitor, or cabling if the screen is not actually turning on. I understand the screen stays blank, but there is two different types of blank. As in there is no text but the screen is on. Or the screen is completely off.

If it is completely off it is not a memory issue, but a screen issue and would need to be handled by the manufacturer or repair firm.

Blank Screen

First, confirm that it is the screen itself. Connect the video output to a known working monitor and then power on your Thinkpad. if the known working monitor behaves the same way you can rule out the laptop's monitor as the source of the problem. This may be the BGA, Ball Grid Assembly, leadless soldering problem related to video chips on the motherboard, but first test the monitors.

im afraid that your screen is broken, but try to move the screen foward and backward littlebit, my friend also have the same problems and only by contact local support using his warranty the problems fix, you may open your laptop to see if something wrong with the wire but i think its not practically good.

Blank screen

Hi there,
Sometimes an easy solution to this is to turn off your laptop completely, remove the power lead from the socket and the laptop, then remove the battery, leave for a couple of minutes and then try again.
If this does not work, then you are into the realms of programming / restoring.
I hope this helps you, Chris
