Question about Sony VAIO VGN-NR385E Laptop

1 Answer

I have had my Sony Vaio VGN-NR385E laptop for three and a half years. I was working on it last night and it suddenly shut off completely, as if I had disconnected the wall charger without the battery in place, but both the battery AND the wall charger were still in place. I tried turning it back on, but nothing happens. There are no indicator lights on the computer, and the AC adapter still shows a green indicator light (AND is outputting the proper voltage), so I don't know what I should do! Please advise.

Move the power jack around while plugged in, does the blinking on the battery stop when you hold it in certain positions? If so, your dc-jack needs to be soldered, but i probably was loose already before you started using it. It could be a broken motherboard issue as well. You can try to open the laptop and check the dc connection. There is a Laptop Repair Guide that shows you how to take apart a laptop, the sony may be made in a similar way. Sony Repair NYC

SOURCE: Sony VAIO VGN-FE770G only runs on AC power, battery not working

This looks like the system is not able to sustain itself on the battery power. I have a doubt here. Is it a new or an old laptop. Either Case we have to suspect the battery charging and battery condition. One another reason could be that the battery contact is not good. But this could be of the least chance as the manufacturing of such devices would be perfect in all standards. Lets check the battery power first.

A sony Vaio never operates if the battery is not detected or the battery is not charging, while the system is up and running, you can see a small picture of the battery in the system tray which is at the right bottom corner of the screen. Run your mouse over the same and you will find a tooltiptext message and you can see if the battery is charging or not. If not, your hardware has a problem. If its charging but the battery charge is not increasing, then you have a battery problem. If its a battery problem and that the system is under warranty, you can well get a replacement for free. Hope this resolves the issue. Good Luck.

The left button of Mousepad(one on laptop, but not touch pad) is often not working and sometimes need to press hard. Model VGN-NR38M, Sony Vaio. please help

I had the same problem . The micro switch needs to be replaced . All push button micro switches have a certain amount of "clicks" before they loose ability to make a good contact . Your left click switch has exceeded its life and can no longer make a clean contact without more pressure . Eventually the spring in the switch will fail thus stick permanantly. You will have to take it to an authorized Sony Service center or maybe an office machine service department might have the replacment . I fixed my own with an old mouse microswitch .

Sort of sounds like a virus. I had a Sony VAIO laptop for about 8 years. During that time until I got KASPARSKY internet antivirus I had many problems. Sony was a lifesaver. Call then at 888-467-6972. Out of the at least 10 times that I called them they talked to me without charging me anything except for one time. They charged me 19.99. However, if you are like me it didn't matter how much it cost. You should call them.
