Question about Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Memory Card I just got my new Canon Power Shot G9. The user guide pictures a different memory card then what came with the camera. The guide shows a memory card that has ribbing and a write protection tab. The memory card that came with the camera does not. It is smooth all around except for one squared off corner. My problem is I cannot figure out, since the guide diagram and the actual card do not match, how the card is inserted into the camera? Please help! Thanks, Liz

They tricked you. The picture in the guide is of an SD card, but the card that came with the G9 is an MMC card. On both, there is a row of brass-colored contacts along one edge. This is what looks like ribbing in the guide. These contacts should go into the camera first. The memory cards will only seat if they are inserted correctly, so if it goes in far enough to close the cover, you have it in right.

Why does my Canon G12 Communication has an error message when uploading to my mac

Probably your memory card is full, you should erase some pictures from the camera and it will work. It happened to my Canon G9 . I erased some old pictures from my memory card and the message Communication Error disappeared.

I have a Canon PowerShot G9 camera. When i plug it into usb cord to dowload pictures, i get the error message "Communication Error" across the viewing screen of the camera.

The problem I believe is the sequence or flow of the connection.
With the camera turned off. Connect the USB cable to a computer USB port and the other end to the camera digital port turn the camera on by using the "Playback" button here is a diagram

You know there is an easier and better way of transferring picture files and that's by using a memory card reader. A memory card reader plugs into the USB port of a computer and the camera memory card is inserted into the reader slot. The computer then looks at this as an external Hard Drive. Both methods will need you to format the memory card after the images have been downloaded to the computer. Formatting the memory card in the camera in which it is to be used will clean the card and making it compatible with the camera both the camera and memory card can then communicate without errors.

Canon G9 will not turn on, put new battery in, still doesn't work

Your camera has a short, this happens on the G9 models from some screws that come loose and create a short in the camera. That memory card error is a false code that sometimes shows from the short. If you go to: camerasandparts.com they specialize in service for the Canon Powershot cameras. They have the no power fix for this right on their website and it's not much at all to have repaired. They are totally amazing if you need servicing for a powershot, that's all they deal with. They also include a fix in the camera so the power problem / short never happens again. I hope that helps, that's the greatest place if you need help with a Powershot problem.

I have a new canon power shot a580 and have used a kodak 2gb memory card. I started with an empty card, took approx 30 pictures and then "memory card error" shows up on my little screen. I can't retrieve...

Did you format the card in the camera first to initialize it? Use a card reader to download any pictures on the card to a folder you create on your desktop. Then, format the card in the camera.

A 32mb card isn't very big. If your camera takes pictures larger than 6mps, the card will fill up fast. Why not buy a larger card? You can set the picture quality to a lower setting in the menu of the camera, but if you capture that once in a lifetime shot and you want to print an enlargement, the quality will suffer. My advice...shoot in the highest quality and use a big card.

Hi there
The card may be in write protect mode, take the card out and look around the edges for a small lock, like this >>>>>>528f45e.jpg
put the card back in the camera and you should be good to go.

Thanks for using Fixya!!!
