I suspect you have your dishwasher set for a 1 hour delay start. Press cancel and restart in a regular/normal cycle and see if it programs.

The dial on my model#DU8016XB-1 is frequently VERY difficult to turn, causing me to think I will break it. Once I am able to force the dial to the START position, the dishwasher cycle seems to work just...

HI. Unfortunately, this damaged timer control module will need to be replaced. This type of device is not designed to be repaired. The timer motor mechanism is damaged, thus, causing theses issues you are experiencing. Apparently, part of the timer dial plate has become fused, or the cogs are damaged.

Have the timer control module replaced, asap. It is not repairable.

If the cycle doesn't complete, check these:

Water-heating cycle
Timer
Water-heating cycle Many dishwashers heat the wash and/or rinse water to a higher temperature, as the cycle calls for it. In these cycles, the dishwasher pauses after it has filled with water, waiting for the water to reach the pre-set temperature. What happens next, depends, as follows:

  • On some units, the pause is timed and the unit continues after the allotted time.

  • On others, the cycle can't continue until the water reaches the higher temperature. If you have this type of dishwasher and the water isn't being heated (say, because of a problem with the heating element or thermostat), after the unit stops at the heating cycle, it never continues. When you repair the heating-system problem, the "cycle problem" is fixed too.

Timer Timers don't often fail. But if every other part of the dishwasher seems to be working properly and the timer knob seems to be stuck in one place--doing one function continuously--the timer may be at fault. Dishwasher timers can't be repaired. If yours is defective, replace it.

Won't stop cleaning to go to dry

I have not worked with this Kenmore model, but:

It would be good to check the heating element to make sure it has not failed. Some dishwashers will wait forever for the water to come up to temp before it goes to the next cycle.

If the heating element checks out:
-IF it has a knob/dial that you turn to start the dishwasher on any cycle, that timer/controller has most likely failed.

-If your dishwasher does NOT have a dial as described above, then the main controller card (PCB) has most likely failed.

Cycle Sticks unless I manually move it along

Ya, the mechanical timer/dial is the problem. The heating element just got stuck on as the timer stalled in that dry cycle.

Dishwasher not working

Difficult to say for certain exactly what will fix your problem but it is not out of the realm of possibility that the inlet valve is sticking closed.. The repairman may have given it a tap to free it up so that when it was energized.. it opened and let water in for the wash cycle..Just because that valve wasn't clogged doesn't mean it wouldn't stick.. If you can access it .. try giving it a light tap on the housing when the DW is cycling.. Hope that gets you going..
