My BNA17B mini fridge also died but it was not the heat sink. I had a blown fuse and two bad power supply filter caps. The fuse is a 3 amp, soldered to the board. I replaced it with a fuse holder and 2.5A fuse. The capacitors are 330uf 250VDC electrolytics. If you replace yours make sure you get the polarity correct. See photo, you can see the bad cap already removed and the replacement on the board.

Where can I get that Capacitor? I can't find it anywhere?

  • csighence May 04, 2012

I got the capacitor from Digi-Key corporation. digikey.com

I had the same problem (bad cap and fuse). The fuse is shrink wrapped so it is easy to miss. I got the capacitor from eBay ($2) and fuse/holder from radio shack ($5).

Hi csighence I have the similar problem. I soldered in a new fuse holder & ceramic 3amp fuse onto the board, however when I plugged it in the fuse simply popped, could this be caused by a bad resistor or capacitor, such as the two you replaced? Also I noticed that the connection where the power source meets the board burned a little bit, as if there is a short somewhere... I'm a noob when it comes to electronics but I'm trying to learn gradually, also can you tell me if your fuse holder is soldered in the same way as mine? I know it looks a bit tacky, & I may need to re-solder the connections, but I'm trying to pinpoint the problem. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

Also what is the diameter (Size) of the capacitors that y'all purchased? I'm thinking this is my problem as well. Thanks guys

No it can't, as it has no compressor... only heat and cold sinks.

GO TO EBAY AND ORDER PART # TEC-12706. A SEMYCONDUCTOR COST 4.00 TO 15.00 EA OR GOOGLE IT

  • gkohler1 Feb 26, 2011

the guy who wrote that the unit can be recharged is wrong ... the BNA17B is a solid state refrigerator like those little ones that you can buy for your car. you'll have to figure out what component is bad before you just go replacing things.

Air conditioner won't blow cold air after recharge

This is likely due to a defective air temperature control blend door problem, it is likely snapped off at the drive shaft of the door a common problem on the Jeep model. To do this with the factory part requires the dash be removed form the truck. You can get around that by using a kit called "heatertreater" Check eBay for one or contact a local parts store like NAPA

I have a 03 honda civicand the air conditioner wont work? it doesnt need recharged and the light comes on when i push the button but i get no cold air? any ideas?

I have the same problem right now, and from what I can figure, it looks like an intermittent thermal protector switch on top of the AC compressor. My 2003 Civic air conditioning works fine for 20 minutes or so and then stops working. If this switch is faulty, the compressor clutch won't engage and you won`t get cold air. I will get it replaced soon, but it seems like the access is not easy.

Refridgerator is not working will not get cold

Here is the basic idea on how to keep the refrigerator, air conditioner, or vacuum cleaner to work properly. Air is moved by an electric fan or blower in order for that product to work properly. If air movement is blocked the fridge won't get cold, the central air conditioner won't cool enough, the vacume cleaner won't clean as well. Check on your fridge's air movement by inspecting the bottom of the fridge for dust and cob webs. Remove the front bottom clip-on plastic grill. Or also even access the lower back of the fridge by removeing the screws holding up the heavy cardboard cover to see inside. Blockage of air flow will prevent a fridge from getting cold. Just like a vacume cleaner stops working when the bag is filled with dust and fibers.

The air could be blocked by the accumulation of dust and fibers. Look under your fridge if it is cloged, it will look just like the stuff on a dirty central air filter.

Dust and fiber buildup blocking the fridge's air movement from back to front (or visa-versa) of your fridge will slowly (years) prevent how good it cools. The build-up of dust and cobwebs prevents your fridge from cooling (more specifically prevents the heat to disapate from the metal heat disipating fins attached to the metal tubes to be blown off by the fans air). OK! Remedy for a vacuum cleaner REPLACE THE CLOGED VACUUM BAG.

Remedy for your fridge manually REMOVE THE CLOGING DUST AND FIBERS FROM UNDER YOUR FRIDGE. SORRY fridge manufacturers do not provide a dust filter like the vacume cleaner and central air systems manufacturers do. You have to figger out the best way you can clean it. Possibly vacuum with a crevice tool, or use a small brush than vacuum. The extreme would be unplug the fridge ( so you won't get electrocuted) bring a water hose into the kitchen and spray water at cobweb buildup at the bottom fridge, than wet vac the floor then wait 20 minutes to dry before pluging the fridge back into the electric outlet.
When you stand in front of your fridge and you hear the fridge electric motor turn on, the fan will blow air.The fridge

I have two senville mini split 18000 and they both frost up with in 1 Hr. of use both have been pumped out and recharged

Dear Friend! Before recharging gas.did you check leak testing? If not, again you will same problem.

And some more reasons for frost up:
1. Indoor coil & air filter dust blocked-clean it. 2.Less rpm of indoor fan motor- replace capacitor or motor.
Thanks, it's helpful to you.

My Black & Decker bna17b mini fridge simply does not cool enough. The manual claims it should get down to 37 degrees Fahrenheit in a 70 degree room. I put the setting on high (coldest) and my milk...

Sorry Brian & Charles, but you missed the boat on this one.
This Black & Decker refrigerator uses Peltier Thermo-electric modules on heat sinks. If you blow off the dust and the unit still does not cool, these modules have probably gone bad.

The heat sinks/modules attach to the back of the fridge with two screws each. Unplug the power, remove the screws and then remove the heat sink/cooling fan units. On the refrigerator side will be a smooth plate with two wires coming out of it. Plug the fridge in and touch this plate. If it is not cold to the touch, your Peltier module is bad. You can buy new ones for about $20 each - Parts Express has the Velleman brand Peltier 2 model. But seriously, you'd probably be better off just buying a new fridge.
