On off button

Whilst I was taking pictures with my coolpix 5700 the on/off button came away from the housing and cannot get it started again to download my pictures - is this a back to repair shop job or can I put this back on myself??/

Camera needs repair.
One thing you may do is find another one on a site such as Ebay and use that one which has another problem. Exchange the top button assembly, if you are good at small repairs.

When I turn my camera on it automatically flips to show the exposure compensation button. The only way I can get it to go away and take a photo is to push the lock button and then it lets me take a photo....

Why don't you push the exposure compensation button (the one that's half-black/half-white with a plus and minus) make sure the setting is on "0" and push the button again to turn it off.

I have a Cool Pix 5700. Taking longer to advance to next shot

If you have changed you media card, that could be the problem.

Not all media cards are the same! Some are faster then others, try up-grading your media card!

Nikon Coolpix 5700 Over-exposure of image whilst zooming in brigh

I now have the exact same issue. When not zoomed or fully zoomed the exposure is correct, however when partially zoomed the aperture does not engage and stays fully open. So basically I cannot really use the zoom or the picture is over exposed. Note - actually about 2/3 mechanical zoom and on works, so I can use a bit of the zoom.

Suggestions?

After taking a picture there are colored bands across the pictur

Try to clean the lens with a soft dry cloth and try again. If there is some oil smear on the lens, use a lens cleaning solution to clean the lens. If this does not solve the problem, take it to an authorized service center.

When you take a picture it has black line across it

seems like this is a banding problem. Nikon has issued a service advisory on some of their Coolpix models including the 5700. So they will fix this issue free of cost. This is an issue with the sensor. Please contact the nearest authorized service center.

Nikon Coolpix 5700 malfunction

It sounds like the Function (FUNC) button is stuck. Actually, that's what is supposed to happen if you press the FUNC and then turn the wheel... but it's not supposed to stay that way after the FUNC button is released. Try tapping the FUNC button to see if it releases.

My camera will not take a picture unless lock button is held

Had this problem two weeks ago. On the road to recovery, changing the purpose of the function button seems to have helped me - <Menu>, <Set-up1>, <Controls>, <Func.> Change chosen option away from the top one (User Setting). I found the third one down with the flash symbol least confusing. Then <Set> and <Menu> button to escape from the menus.

Having done all this the camera will take pictures again without pressing the lock button. However, I'm not convinced the func. button works as described in the manual. Hope this helps?
