Question about Sharp CD-C3900 CD Shelf System
When the "protect" indicator goes on, it's the system's way of protecting itself from a more serious problem. What has likely happened is that an internal component has failed. If there wasn't a protect circuit, the system could overheat, catch fire, or cause an electrical shock. There isn't too much you can do about this... taking it into a shop to get it fixed will very likely cost much more than if you bought a used and working version of the same model. Extracting your CD's will require you to partially disassemble the until.
One last thing you can try is to check the manual's troubleshooting section. If you don't have the manual you might be able to download it. In that section, it may provide some advice about what to do when the "protect" indicator appears, or how to extract the CD's if the unit fails somehow.
