Resetting a router following the instructions in the users guide will generally erase all configuration in the router -- meaning all configuration will need to be completely redone. ASSURE YOU HAVE THE APPROPRIATE INFORMATION TO COMPLETE THIS TASK BEFORE STARTING.

User guides can generally be obtained by accessong the manufacturers website -- assuming the category is correct -- this link should get you to the belkin support web site.

SOURCE: network key for belkin router

are you referring to the Encryption key - the WEP key?  You need to get that from the person who takes care of the router.  If YOU are the person who administers the router, then you need to reset it to the default factory settings.

SOURCE: What does it mean when just the wireless light is

I think the wireless part of the router might not be working properly.
you will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
When the wireless mode is disabled on the router , the wireless light goes off. but you said that it was working before.
Open the set up interface of the router and check the wireless settings of the router. Try to change the wireless channel on the router.
If that doesn't work then upgrade the firmware of the router.

SOURCE: Forgot my security password (network key)I need to

Logon to your router from your computer using your browser and going to http://192.168.1.2/. If it wants a username, the default username is blank and the default password is either blank or "password".

The Belkin management tool will come up. From there, go into your security and look to see if your passphrase is visible. If it is, you're good to go. If not, you can change it on that page save it and close out.
Don't forget to change the passphrase on any wireless devices you are using connected to the Belkin wireless router.

Wifi does not connect to network. always asks for network key the router is a belkin n300

The router has probably been setup with wep / wpa / or wpa2 protection. You will need to ask the person who set the router up for the passkey. If this is a router you setup, or if the router is connected to another computer via network cable. You can log into the router (usually by going to http://192.168.0.1 ) with username admin and password admin.
Then go to the wireless section. In here you can see what your wireless key has been set to.

My local public network is asking for a security key number

Probably as is open and with no security some one change the wireless setting adding security to the router, Reset the router to factory settings and add a password to reconfigure the router not to the wireless connections, in that way people can still use the public internet but cant configure the router because dont have the password.

To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security You can select either WEP, WPA or WPA2 to make it secure and under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key. What is a security key

WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is an advancement over WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy). While connecting to a home network, you are often asked to insert a WPA key or a password to which users often ask, "How Do I Find My Computer's WPA Key?" WPA stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access. It is a standard security protocol implemented by Wi-Fi alliance to secure wireless computer networks. WPA standard is advancement over(Wired Equivalent Privacy) Wep is standard that had several security issues. WPA implements most of the IEEE 802.11i standard and provides greater security than WEP.
While connecting to your home network, you are often asked to insert a WPA key. This WPA key is either located in the modem or in the router you are using. In order to find your computer's WPA key, follow the steps given below:
How to find your computer's WPA key Step 1: First of all, you need to launch an internet browser. Press "Windows + R" keys to open the "Run" prompt and type "iexplore" without quotes to open Internet Explorer. You can also type "firefox" to open Mozilla Firefox. On the address bar at the top, type http://192.168.1.1 (Belkin routers use 192.168.2.1 as the default IP) and press "Enter" key.
This address belongs to your wireless modem or wireless router to which you are connected.
Step 2: A window asking for username and password will appear. In the username field, type "admin" without quotes and in the password field, either type "password" without quotes or leave the password field blank. Press "Enter" key to continue.
If password is correct, you will be redirected to the modem/router's "Settings" page, otherwise, you will have to reset the modem/router. Check beneath the modem/router or check the manual for correct password.
To Reset a modem/router, locate a small hole at the back of the modem/router and insert a pin to press the switch inside it. Keep the switch pressed for about 20-30 seconds after which the modem/router will restore the settings to "factory defaults" and reboot itself.
Repeat the step 2, in order to gain access to "Settings" page.
Step 3: On the modem/router's "Settings" page, find "Wireless" option. Click the "Wireless" link to populate the wireless settings. Now, locate and click the "Security" or "Advanced Security" option.
On the security page, you will find "Network Authentication". Different options available under the Network Authentication menu are open, shared, WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, etc. Select either WPA or WPA2, to find your computer's WPA key and insert this key when asked for.
If in step 2, you had reset the modem/router, you will not find any WPA or WPA2 key, and you will have to manually assign one. Select any of the WPA-PSK or any other authentication and assign a key to it. A key can be 8-63 long. For minimal security, you can choose 8 characters key, like "iN\/5R92". For maximum security, choose 63 characters key like, "sJ0esmoU2cBD\m+oMp$nrXj5XPVRTvVA5fpwGSGI\RVz4RdQ7V3y\l$P1NrT9Be".
After you have assigned a key, save/apply the changes and reboot the modem/router.
Note: The procedure shown above is common to most of the modems/routers. If this doesn't apply to you, check your modem/router's manual to find the wireless security option.

It is looking for a NetWork Key or password that was set up when your router was installed. That network key protects your network from some one else connecting to your network. You can reset your router where it will forget that network key and when you start it back up it will be an open network not needng a password, but you are going to have to learn how to enter your router's set uo menu and replace that factory setting with another key. Take a look at:

I have loaded my PC with the SW for my F7D4302 Belkin Wireless Play Router and when I go in the other room to access my wireless laptop - the system asks for my network key and confirm key.

Hey hi dude. The router which you have installed recently in your system is password protected i guess. While installing the router software itself you will be asked to give some password in order to protect the router from 3rd party interference and to make it personalised for you. So just recollect the password which you have given that time and give the password to connect it. You can able to connect it. The problem is not with the distance between the router and your laptop.

How do I find the WPA key ?

If you are trying to connect the PSP through a network that belongs to you, then the network administrator is the person to ask for the WPA key.
The WPA is like a password. It protects the network from unauthorized access.

Password protect wireless internet

It is very simple and easy. First of all you need to go to the router page. To do this, go to start>run and type cmd. This will take you to command prompt.
Type ipconfig . Hit Enter. Now look for Default Gateway. It will be like 192.168.1.1 . Note down that number and exit command prompt.
Now open an Internet Explorer window and type the Default Gateway address in the address bar and hit go. This will take you to the router page. It may ask you for a username and password. Username can be admin, administrator and the passwords can be admin, administrator, password or it can be left blank. If it does not work, you can contact your router manufacturer to ask for the username and password to get to the router page.
Once you get to the router page, you can go to settings and choose WEP or WAP key. WEP keys are preffered. So choose WEP key and enter whatever you can remember and then save the settings. It may ask you to restart your router. Restart and the next time it will be started, a password will be required which will be your WEP key.

Protection on my Mac

Given that you have setup the Internet connection on your router, encrypting the wireless security will be fairly easy for you. Just follow these steps.

1. You should use you PC or MAC that is connected directly to the router via an ethernet cable. You can use PC or MAC, which ever is connected directly to the router (Connected thru cable not wireless).

2. Open Internet Explorer / Firefox (PC) or Safari / Firefox / Internet Explorer (MAC), then go to the address bar and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. A window will pop up prompting you for a username and password to access the configuration page for your router. Leave the username blank and type admin as the password (**If that will not work, (Enter admin for both the username and password)

3. You should see the Setup page shown below :

be6ce2f.jpg

4. Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the settings screen. Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from the default value to something unique (you can use your name or last name, or any name that you would like, because that will be the name of your wireless network, that will be the one that your wireless computers will detect) then click on Save Settings and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed.

5. Now click on the Wireless Security subsection at the top of the page. In order to password protect your wireless network first use the Security Mode dropdown box to select WEP and then from the WEP Security dropdown box select 64 bits 10 hex digits. Choose a password between 6 and 8 characters and type it into the Passphrase box. Then click Generate. It Will generate 4 keys (Key 1-4). You will use key 1 as your password.

6. Finally click Save Settings and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed.

7. Now let your wireless PC scan for available wireless networks, find the name of the wireless network that you have specified earlier for SSID then connect to that network. Of course since the network is password protected, it will ask you to enter a password, this is time that you will enter the network key (Key 1 - password).
