You get that error when you are trying to upload the firmware and the printer power was interrupted.
1. Close the firmware update tool on the computer if it is still active on the screen, and then turn off the product. 2. If the product is on a network, connect a USB cable (2 meters or less) from the product to an open port on the computer. HP recommends that this be a direct connection instead of through a hub. 3. Turn on the product, and then wait for the message ready 2 Download to appear. 4. On the computer, cancel any alerts about a new device being connected. 5. On the computer, open the Printers and Faxes control panel. 6. Right-click the printer driver for the product model that is being updated, and then click Properties. 7. In the Properties dialog box, click the Ports tab. 8. Note the name of the port that the product is currently connected to for use later when reconnecting at the end of this process. 9. Click the check box next to USB001. If USB001 is already connected to another USB device, click USBXXX where "XXX" is the highest-numbered USB device that has a description of "Virtual printer port for USB". Using the scroll bars on the right side of the window might be necessary, depending on the number of devices installed. 10. Click OK to accept the change and apply the settings. 11. Restart the firmware update tool on the computer, and then select the same product that was just created. 12. Start the firmware download. 13. Verify that the control panel display shows Erasing and then Programming, indicating that the update process has begun. Do not interrupt the firmware update process. 14. The product should momentarily show the message Complete. Turn the product off and then back on. The product will not automatically reboot. 15. When the product reboots, on the computer, cancel any alerts about a new device being connected. 16. Print a configuration page to verify that the update occurred. 17. Return to the Printers and Faxes dialog box, right-click the printer driver for the product model that
is being updated, and then click Properties 18. In the Properties dialog box, click the Ports tab. 19. Click the check box next to the previous port to which the product was connected before the update began.

The red triangle light with the "!" in it keeps flashing. I've just printed some things off but now it's not printing. Need it to print obviously..

ATTENTION light(triangle): Indicates that the print-cartridge door is open, print cartridge is missing, and other errors.

If ATTENTION and READY light is blinking:

Printer initialization
The printer is initializing.
No action is necessary.

Cleaning mode
A cleaning page is printing.
Wait until the cleaning page has finished and the printer is in the Ready state.
This could take up to two minutes.

If ATTENTION and READY light is on:

Fatal error
Turn off the printer, and then unplug the printer power cord for 30 minutes.
Plug the printer power cord into the power outlet, and then turn the printer on.
If the error persists, replace the printer.

If ATTENTION light is blinking and READY light is off:

  1. Attention: door open, no print cartridge, or media jam
The printer is in an error state that requires operator intervention.
Check the following:
? The print cartridge door must be completely closed.
? The print cartridge is correctly installed.
? There is no media jam.

2. Out of memoryThe printer is out of memory.
The page you are printing might be too complex for the printer's memory capacity.
Try lowering the resolution.

I have HP laserJet 4250 in my office. when I turn it on, it says initializing....then it says "processing job" and after a few seconds it gets stuck on "Ready." I have tried everything...

First make sure that the correct driver is set as the default printer.
If so, try reloading the printer driver.
I have had to reload drivers on several occasions... for what reason I do not know.

If this does not work,
You can try reseating the formatter...
Slide the right rear cover back to remove it...
The metal cage behind it is the formatter.
There are two screws on the rear of the printer that hold it in.
Remove power cord and screws and tug/slide the metal assembly toward the rear of the printer.
Push it back in, all the way and replace the two screws.

If this does not work, try a cold reset...
Turn the machine off.
Turn it on and hold the green check button down when the machine starts counting the memory.
When all three lights on the display stay lit, let go of the button.
Now press the "up arrow" button about four times, until the display reads "cold reset".
Now press the green button and let the machine go through the reset.

If this does not work, you may need a formatter.

Printer was stuck in "offline" mode, so deleted it

Hi,

This is not Printer or PC USB port issue.

You need to drain the power from PC.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue

1. Disconnect the printer power cord from walljack or surge protector
2. Disconnect the USB cable of printer from PC or vice versa
3. Power off your PC, Disconnect the power cord from wall jack
4. Wait for 5-10 mins
5. Connect the PC power cord and power on the PC and wait till you are able to login to your PC
6. Connect the Printer power cord
7. Connect the USB cable to PC or vice versa you disconnected.

This should resolve the issue.

Sounds like it is stuck in "Power Save" mode. Try unplugging the power cord and plugging it back in again. That usually fixes this one...
