hi, sounds like the safetyvalve is opening. there is a opening value on the valve, check this at moment of opening. if it opens at correct value, your pressure regulator is set to high. to lower this you have to open the regulator, (is the small case where the wires going in) and release the bold in the spring.(unplug first before opening, life parts) if the problem stays the same, make sure that the pressure out of the tank will reach the regulator. there is a small hole witch can be closed by rust or dirt. good luck, you can always aske for more options.

I do not use factory parts when possible to repair compressors. I use generic pressure switch, checkvalves, guages from Watch port size, number of access ports and unloader availability when ordering. Pressure switches are generally replaced when contacts are burned or over pressurizing to point of safety opening. If compressor is not reaching set pressure look for leaks or faulty parts in pump. Good luck

you may have a Regulator on Air-Compressor Mount on the Gauge or next to it this allow you to set a pressures from 0 - 200 psi this to helps you maintain steady and reliable operation of your air tools.

Hello. I have a Ingersoll Rand air compressor, model 2475. I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the pressure gauge to create a larger differential. It is currently running between 150 and 160...

You can adjust almost all pressure switches

Compressors,Well Pumps,etc

Take off the cover & there should be a screw
to do just what you want to do,lower the cut out

Good idea, as the compressor will last many years
longer, the less it runs

hi there, if there is enough air pressure present in the compressor the motor will stop, the pressure switch is working.if there is a good pressure at start then suddenly lost the pressure, there is no maintaining pressure to use but on the pressure gauge appear to be have a good or enough air pressure. check if the pressure gauge have enough air pressure the motor is stop, meaning the cut out limit switch stop the motor,if you loosen the air pressure from the valve until the cut in pressure attain or meet the motor will run again there will be a cycle process of differential pressure of cut in and cut out set up on pressure switch. checking the compressor,be sure there is a high pressure on compressor and the compressor motor is stop, shut off service valve and disconnect unit device / tools from the service valve. if the compressor have enough air pressure crakc down the service valve and observe the pressure until it run again the compressor motor,if the pressure maintain the pressure you need to clean the bench, the problem is the unit device/tool you use is defective, but if the maintaining air pressure in the compressor is lost due to malfuction of motor and the compressor engine. check the pressure switch, check the motor function by loosening the belt and run the motor w/o the compressor engine if it is tripping brought it to service center, check also the lubricant oil,if neccessary change oil.have a nice day and fix my rate thanks a lot.

Will only charge to 40 psi, is supposed to charge to 150

You may have a problem still related to the original reason it was reconditioned.

However, you should have a regulator that you set to the tank pressure you want to maintain. Most have a tool regulator as well and 40 psi sounds like that is what it is set for.

If you do have a tank pressure regulator and it is still not charging above 40 psi, then either take it back or pick up a new regulator for under $20 at Home Depot and replace the gauge you have now.

Also, sometimes the gauge will have a needle tilted so that one end presses against the glass, and if you tap the glass hard with your finger it will move on around to the correct pressure.

Finally, if you are not experienced with small compressors, look under your gauge and see if there is not a black knob that pulls out and pushes in to turn and change the pressure.

Broken Part. Need Replacement

If you refer to the oil filler plug, item #6 in the diagram linked here, it's listed as obsolete.

If refer to the intake filter, It's item #3 on the diagram, it too is listed obsolete.

I would contact Master Tool Repair at 757-410-2879. They can cross the part to another once they know the thread size of the old part.
